Claim for Broken Femur...

You'll probably think I'm lying but the biggest payout I've seen was for a mate of mine.
He was coming back from JCB on the Uttoxeter bypass on his racer and he was hit by a lorry from behind at 70mph.
He was knocked 200 yards into a layby and the lorry driver didn't even know he'd done it.
My mate suffered from two broken legs, two broken hips, 5 broken ribs, collapsed lung, 180 stitches, broken arm, 5 crushed vertebrae which had to be removed and he became 2" shorter.
He fought it for 5 years and ended up with 10 yearly payments of £30,000 each.
He'd also signed an insurance contract with JCB that if he could no longer work due to an accident to/from or in JCB that he would get 90% of his wages for life.
He also has a Navy pension that pays out on disability.
He'd give it all up though to get his 100% health back.

In 1993 I got knocked off my motorbike and broke my femur.

I got £1,250 for lost earnings and £12,750 for the injury.

Thats unlucky mate, my mate got 2k for a broken nose in a pub fight so expect to see a bit of money.

Being an ex Union Rep I've also sat in on many claims and I can tell you that most people exaggerate how much they get.
Claims also take into account how old the person is and if the injury is permanent or not.

My friend cut his face at work (glass factory). Since the protection/training given wasnt sufficient he made a claim and got £1,000 per stitch.... £9k in total :o

can he even walk any more?

I saw the cheque, and the car he bought with it, wasn't exaggerated this time.

Altough agree with you most people in life do like to exaggerate.

can he even walk any more?

He spent about 3 months in a body cast from neck to just above his willy and he went everywhere in it. He is a very fit person and racing bikes were his life. The journey he made to work everyday was a 36 mile round trip:eek: As soon as he got his cast off he was straight on his bike and he sent letters to everybody involved that if they had cameras on him they would see him on his bike but he was always in constant pain.
He never complained but you could tell he was never happy.
He hired a solicitor to go through every country's property laws so that he wouldn't be ripped off and about 5 years ago he settled in Turkey where the sun aids his pain.
He's quite a rich man over there because of his claim, 90% JCB pay, Navy pension and they sold 2 houses worth about £200,000 each.

I didn't actually aim my comment at anybody on here. In fact all claims look about right.
My mother had an horrendous accident that left her with a hole in her leg and major plastic surgery.
Because of her age and she could still walk she only got £30,000 but it ruined her life.
One bloke I dealt with told everybody he got £100,000 when he only got £2,000.
Another told everybody he got £60,000 when he got £2,500 and I had to keep my mouth shut.
