Back in July 2006 I was in a motorbike accident, car hit the side of the bike meaning my left femur was broken, a 'butterfly' fracture (basically two fractures so a length of bone floating free), so I also have a metal pin from hip to knee,
The claim is still on-going but my solicitor is going to make an offer to the third parties insurance company of £17,000 for the injuries (leg as mentioned, ligament damage to both knee's and some scars on both legs), and a further ~£4300 for the loss of earnings and expenses, which is the care provided by my mum, petrol costs to visit hydrotherapy (had the care/treatment in east sussex but after 3 months I had returned to work so was living in bristol), and the clothes/protective gear I was wearing that day,
It's definately a good idea to make a note of everything, no matter how minor, if you need to get things like bandages/gauze pads for the wounds after you leave hospital then note down the cost, and keep the receipt, then send all of that to your solicitors and you'll get it added to the expenses
Dunno if it will help you, but even after the hydrotherapy/physiotherapy was over I still walked with a slight limp and had a bad 'ache' almost constantly in my leg, however I find that as long as I keep going to the gym every couple of weeks and pushing myself on the leg press to keep my thigh fairly strong the ache and limp pretty much disappear...
