It's not possible I'm afraid. I was really annoyed when the Natwest down the street changed into a trendy wine bar, but after many months of appeal, I'm stuck with having to go 500 metres further to my bank :(.

well i keep getting fined £150 every month without anything i can do about it. I went to the bank and they wouldnt give me an overdraft and so each month these fines guarantee i go into the red.the woman even had the keep to suggest that i get a pub job to prevent this.

i keep getting fobbed off with the whole court case thing. I said i will be writing letters anyway to claim back the charges following the moneysavingexpert guides.my financial advisor told me that all the banks are ignoring the letters till after the case is settled.

I think it's a lot harder now. I got £600 back from my bank but that was last year [and was about a quarter of what they owed me]. Apparently if it was hard before, it's even harder now.

i've been reading on the money saving expert that people are still claiming back but they are all on hold until the test case is complete?

well reading through it. they still only have 40days to get back to you after you write to them.

i've just called barclays and asked for all my charges to be sent in a list and they said fine it'll be with you in 28days :s

anyone here with HSBC thats had luck claiming back any of these charges? My financial situation fell apart about 6 monthes ago due to dodgy housemates which since then has affected my outgoings, and since then every month ive been going into the red which has gotten worse and worse. I would love to find a solution to getting back these £150 a month overdraft fines

HSBC paid me back £800ish in charges at the beginning of the year. I had asked for £1400 but needed the cash so settled.

I agree they are all now waiting on the outcome of the case but will be in trouble if it goes against them as there will be a flurry of claims as it gets more press attention.

I forgot to mention - you should go to your branch and sit down and discuss your situation with them. They should offer to convert the outstanding debt/overdraft to a loan therefore erasing your monthly fees and putting you on a better foot to pay back the overdraft.

Same thing keeps happening to me, the charges dont even go through til like a month after so everytime you put some in it just comes out, I'm just leaving mine until after the court case is settled, already applied for like a grand back and they said no and I farted around for too long now this court case has started, will definitely be having another go though once its settled.

It'll be an absolute joke if it goes against us.

ahh that would be the test case then? by the time mine is in progress hopefully it will be over. Took me about 6 months last time with HBOS.

lets just hope the banks win the court case and bring some sanity back to this, why people think they should get the money back is still beyond me. you signed up to the bank accounts and the details were clearly laid out in the T&C's so you knew what would happen if you messed up with you money. It's a strange world when the law protects the stupid and reckless.

Don't you have a bridge to be sitting under?

How about a loan to pay off the unauthorised overdraft?

An unexpected bill (or even a mistaken deduction) that puts you £1 over the overdraft limit results in a £70 fine.

Fair?

Didn't think so.

I do hope that the banks win ultimately, but that some sort of legislation is brought in to protect people who go overdrawn by a few pounds, or have legitimate mitigating circumstances.

Perhaps a tiered fining system? Eg. No fine if you're <£50 overdrawn (in the case of a bill being a bit more then expected, perhaps), a £25 fine if you're £50-100 overdrawn, £50 if its £100-500, and so on so forth.

Mate of mine is using a claim company, got his letter through the other day with the claim amount. It's taking a lot longer now with every bank waiting on the test case, so they're dragging their heels. It's still doable though.
