claiming bank changes!

some people do have money worrys you know. its not easy street for everyone, get off your throne and concider someone other than yourself.
The point is its unfair that they charge such high fees, and its only the people who go into unauth overdrafts who foot these charges, which is obviously ridiculous since these are the poor people, struggling to make ends meet.

Failed direct debit charges are damn bad too, I got one because the bank mucked up a debit that was due to come in, so one that went out couldnt, I got a charge off them, and the company trying to take money out. Well wasnt that shocking because it left me feeling skint for weeks. It really can ruin someones month or 2 and make a big difference.

Im generally good with money, and am never left wanting, but as a student iv had times when iv been completely skint and iv just never had any luck, it really gets you down.

I understand that, and I'm not on easy street either. I also know there are people worse off than me; but if you plan what you spend against what you have coming in and when, the situation is completely avoidable.

I agree with you, that is a harsh bit - which is why I stated earlier that I think the charges are unbalanced (thus unlawful) and do not reflect the service rendered.

Not if you have other things on your mind and something doesnt go in when its meant to, or for some silly reason something comes out days and days after you took it out, and it slips your mind, then oyu go and get a little more out.

I got charged 25quid before for being 17p overdrawn, even though when i got my bank acc i asked for a £50 overdraft, which they removed without notifying me as I had never used it, which they informed me they are aloud to do. Got the charge back easy enough when i said well thats you losing me, including my savings account:)

End of day they do take the pee a bit, which is what the government want to sort out.

well i keep getting fined £150 every month without anything i can do about it. I went to the bank and they wouldnt give me an overdraft and so each month these fines guarantee i go into the red.the woman even had the keep to suggest that i get a pub job to prevent this.

or sell one of your computers :)

Lloyds TSB have introduced a new system where;

If you're £25 or less overdrawn, you get charged £6 a day
£25-£100 overdrawn, you get charged £12 a day
Over £100 overdrawn, £20 a day.

They can take up to 10 days off you a month.

I think that this is a bit better than the old system, as if you go overdrawn a day before you get paid, you only get charged £6 next time. How on earth does one go £100 overdrawn though?

No more comments to make due to a bank manager posting here.

Or it could be Alistair Darling in disguise.

Aimed at me I assume?

Check he sig, unlikely to be Mr Darling now is it?

Where do you want the limit? As I've sadi, I'd be happy to see ny fees scrapped at the customer request on the understanding that there would be NO chance of ANY DD being honoured if there is not enough cash. Problem is people want their cake, for free and to eat it and for it to taste exquisit.

Realist said:
1) Its my money and I will get it back.
2) I do use a card cash account.
3) Even with a card cash account banks still charge you their rip off fee's knowing its a quick buck to be made.

Long live Labour.

Err, a 'basic' bank account should not charge anything - that's part of the deal. Halifax are still playing at being a bank so do get things wrong...

Still, always the Bank's fault...

Going £100 past your OD limit to me looks a bit bad, but for some people they just have to, they have no choice, the £30 charge is just easier to them than losing their electricity, gas or whatever..
Fairly sure most of us on these forums are fairly good for money in the sense we dont struggle to point of not quite knowing how we're going to make it, hence why a lot of people seem obvious to some things:)

Lloyds system seems better, though its still pretty hefty, just for having £25 of their every day they want £6 of yours, where if they had £25 of your money in an account you'd get what, 0.00001p? Again, really going to hit some people hard.

Smaller fes or whatever terminology you wish to use woudn't owrk - if £25+ per time doesn't make you respect your overdraft limit, would £3-£10? Unlikely. It would just lead to people just flouting their limits much more so than now. To me, I would allow people to request that as soon as it goes 1p over limit, the item is returned regardless with no fee. 3 returns and the item is cancelled. If you try o use the ATM and don't have enough money, tough.

sounds fine to me. But again it is not the principle of charging but the amount that annoys me...

Commercial is a good place to be, get lots of experience and are in a bespoke place with some of the best people around. Plus you get a smallercustomer base. Also gives you almost of the skills you need to dropin to the branch network if you want. I worked in your neck of the woods, or just down the road when I started.
