Clarkson, Hammond and May sign with Amazon Prime for new car show

Amazon wasn’t joking when it said it was giving the former Top Gear team the freedom to make the show they want, reportedly promising them a £160 million budget for the upcoming series.

One of the most expensive UK shows ever, it has a budget bigger than that of the first two seasons of House of Cards and the first Avengers movie.

Former Top Gear producer Andy Wilman, who has jumped ship with the trio, told Broadcast it was the promise of a reported £160 million that made them choose Amazon (which initially seemed like an odd choice over Netflix or a terrestrial/freeview channel).

that is awesome and perhaps explains the decision

I do hope the various fans around the world still get to watch though - I kind of liked the way they had a big following in Iran etc.. or that people were watching from cafes in Syria etc..
 
To put that into context a quick google suggests an episode cost on average £500,000 to make previously and this new series will have £4.5m.
 
I have signed up to Prime on this news. After testing Prime Music I've canceled Spotyfy saving £10 pm. Free next day delivery, Music and Video streaming £79 pa - Bargain.
 
I would have preferred Netflix but to be honest, I have been considering prime for quite a while now for the delivery benefits (I use amazon a lot)

Very happy to hear they are back, and back together!! Dynamic between them made top gear :)
