Class action planned for Xbox bans

I know 4 people with shop bought, un-modified consoles that got banned so Microsofts "detection" is pretty poor before you consider in also know 2 people with modded consoles that were not banned. I suppose people having bought second hand consoles have it wors, rather conveniently lining Microsofts pockets. If they didn't milk things quite so badly (hard drives) people may be inclined to sympathise with them, but I doubt class action will do much.

That having been said the EU has repetitively done Microsofts for it's business practices over the past few years (basically treating the uk like the us) and while the OS side of the business seems to have improved the console side has declined but what can you do.

If this makes it to the eu court then they almost certainly will get done again, chances of that are...

If you are an Xbox Live subscriber, had your modified Xbox console banned from Xbox Live, were not refunded a prorated sum for the time left on your subscription...

Ermmm, you don't get your Live account banned, its just the console...

There is no way you know 4 people with legit (not modded in any way, including WD 120GB drives or datel mem cards) that got banned, can you imagine the uproar that this would cause if it happened?

You may have read on a forum somewhere and it is utter BS

lol good on microsoft for waiting for the nobbers to renew their sub tbh.

even if they did do that on purpose then i dont see how they could be sue'ed over it anyways.

Well put, i agree.

P.S. lolpirates

If that were the case I woud not have mentioned it. 1 last purge, 3 this purge, actual friends not random people touting a horror storey on some random server. Oddly they've all replaced theirs despite the love lost but the decision is theirs. Some grumbling after patch day and that's it, anyone who's called the support centre knows complaining will do nothing outside of waste 60min of your life only to have it buried along with all the other crap there.

My brother, and several of his friends, had their accounts hacked at the beginning of the year. I understand why microsoft do this, I also understand why they use the qualifier "suspected" rather than admit there's a number of cases where they're wrong, but when they charge so much and go to such length just to maintain the margins on something so basic as a hard drive I also understand why people do it.

As I already said though, that class action hasn't got a snowballs chance in hell unless they can prove microsofts using bans to boost hardware sales by crippeling the second-hand market.

No they don't, they want your profile to work so you are more inclined to just replace the XBox rather than think 'screw it' and get a PS3.

No I mean, on the console you used that gamerprofile on, they delete all the digital certificates from the HDD so if you ever played pirate games then tried connecting that profile from same HDD to XBL, it just not work.

Yeah you'd think it would be a massive issue if it was that common.

It does cause i have done it. You just recover the profile on the same HDD on a new unbanned console.

Point i'm trying to get across but failing to do so because I have such rubbish explanatory skills issss:

When you're banned, and if you carry on playing games on that banned xbox + gamer card and get achievements etc. still then try putting that into a legit one to update the gamer score, it wouldn't work because it'll come up as "corrupt" so recovering the gamer card is the only way. :P

Yes thats correct. Getting any achievements on a banned console on your gamertag and then moving it to an unbanned console will result in those achievements gained (after the ban) being wiped.
