Clay bar advice

If you have put that much wax and polish on then the tree sap should just wash off with a good car shampoo... does when ever ive parked under a tree

Claying is well worth it if you want a nice smooth finish.
The polish goes on so much better, plus the better shine because of the smooth paint.
Dont forget to wax after the polish.
I did my Audi the other day, it is gleaming now.

Some tree sap seems to stick regardless.

Must be the type of tree I park under at work... seems to just wash off at the weekend with car shampoo no need to clay or rewax

Surely ordinary hot water & fairy liquid should be enough to move the tree sap?

Or would that blat through the wax too?

My car has a few coats of wax on it, and I got tree sap on it a few weeks ago.

Wouldn't come off with polish, t-cut or white spirit. I left it in the end and it came off eventually, luckily without trace.

What exactly does the Claybar do? I've just started getting into washing my car instead of using the Garage autowash.

Is it worth doing?

It lifts off surface contaminants leaving the paint smooth like glass.

Basically gives you a good base to work on.

Fox, get the water with the wash as hot as you can stand and carefully wash the car as normal, but leave the hot water on the car as long as you dare. The sap will soften enough to be washed away without too much trouble, depending on how long it's been left on the car. This is usually good enough to not have to resort to claying or tcutting the sap away.

Though try not to park under a tree ;)
