Just rememberd the real reason I joined the forum!

I bought Clay bar since I read all the wonderfull stories and after following the instructions, keeping the paintwork "moist" with the detailer liquid I really think im doing it wrong, looks really crap after trying to "rub it in" and the paintwork looks patchy, if thats the right way to describe it.

is there anything obvious i might not be doing right here? is there a secret way of applying that is not in the instructions?

thanks in advance

Cass

You don't really want to try to "rub it in"...it's an abrasive system. Light pressure and more detailer spray. Last time I clayed, I used 3/4 of a bottle of detailer which may seem like overkill, but its better than the clay "grabbing" the surface and marring it.

There's a pretty comprehensive guide to claying here.

what are you trying to say? do I need to prove it? if so how, pics video u name it, its on the drive dude.

honestly I think I might have busted the paint on the bonnet, started on the bonnet then after 30 mins gave up as it looked pretty bad. it does look ok now ive waxed it though, no marks or nothing, I just went to double check and I dont think ive wrecked it afterall.

this sounds like a familiar situation.

anyone remember the guy asking about a dump valve for his RX8 then had to prove he owned one by writing on bits of paper, bit stupid imho

rofl - hilarious - you own a damn rare car :D

How come you on ocuk though and not asking these questions on a specific detailing web site for enthusiasts like yourself? :)

Cassius, before you get too defensive these are reasonable questions. We've had numerous new members (and a couple of well respected members) in the past try and pull a fast one (ask about the portable sun incident) and as a result some people are naturally suspicious. There are some truely fantastic cars on this forum but do not be surprised if people ask to see a photo.

There have been plenty of people who have been proven to be lying though? I'm not referring to the bloke in this thread however, never even heard of the car :o
