I have always formatted my Windows PC every now and then to freshen it up, but I have a rMBP now, and being quite new to OS X, how would I go about doing a clean install on my mac?

Thanks.

Edit: Sorry, should be in software section.

The same way as Windows. Put the OS installer into CD/DVD drive or USB and just boot. Follow instructions.

Don't forget to erase/format the drive first before installing OSX.

Where would I acquire the installer to put on a USB? It didn't come with a CD as it has no drive.

Stop thinking like a Windows user and forget about it. You don't need to reinstall OS X every now and then to 'freshen it up'.

Thanks. I'd quite like to do it as it has got quite full up with rubbish, deleting it all would take quite some time.

I need to 'freshen up' my MBP but it keeps hanging when I try to boot from my Leopard disc. Anybody know if they're going to be selling Mavericks on a USB stick?

I could do some on 8GB sticks.

It's the final bits I'm bothered about, I want to pay for it etc. Unfortunately as stated my Leopard disc doesn't work for some reason and trying to use the Lion recovery partition gives me a 120 hour + wait to download the image from Apple.

It's a pretty terrible experience to be honest. All I want to do is get a clean install on there. I don't particularly want to spend any more money on it but if upgrading to Mavericks works then so be it. I need some physical media first, though.

Nope, I probably average about 10 Mbps. It's been so bad trying to get it to work I've thought maybe the hard disk is knackered but it checks out, as does the RAM.

I'd love to know why it hangs immediately after selecting to boot off my Leopard disc as I've used it before. Ever since upgrading to Lion it's been a pain.

You could say the same about windows post XP, doesn't stop people wanting to do it... ;)

Actually, you've just given me an idea...

You have formatted the disk first haven't you? :)

Try Lion Disk Maker to create your recovery USB stick. Does work with ML.

Don't even need Lion Disk Maker, can use Disk Utility built in. :)

I have 2x SDHC Memory Cards, which one is the recovery and one is ML installer, class 10 too. :D
