Is there a way to trigger the Windows O/S updates after doing a clean fresh install of the O/S ?

If i choose Windows Update, from the start menu, it just sits there saying checking for updates... Even if i leave it overnight, it still sits there saying, checking for updates. I know beforehand it took a while, as it had to gather ALL the updates since the O/S came out, but nowadays it just doesn't want to do anything other than sit there checking for updates.

Is there a trick to give it a kick start ?

I don't normally get this issue as I make my own install media for windows 7 just because of the lack of service packs but still many individual updates that are still released.

every now and then I slipstream the updates in to a bootable USB stick so if I need a re install there is not much to update after a clean install of W7

I use this site and saves a lot of time!

Thanks strange thing is that i had to do number 2 first as number 1 said it wasn't applicable to my enviroment, but after running number 2, i ran number 1 and it worked. so rebooting now.

This was for a 64 bit install BTW, didn't try the 32bit msu's.

I did the same thing on a 32 bit PC for a customer today, second one first and then the first.

all sorted and within 10 mins it found 169 updates so all is good :D

Yeah just had a look at the guide, it has the download links the wrong way round. You need to install the April 2015 servicing pack one first before the July update rollup. I didn't need to turn off Windows update either. Just ran those two installers right after Windows booted into the desktop first time.
