Cleopatra

Critics think its trash aswell, 10% or something, although their main gripe seems to be it's more like a soap opera than a documentary.

Apparently Cleopatra is black in this when she was known to be white and of Greek descent. I think I'd rather watch someone lancing boils.
Although we don't know who her mother or grandmother were so I'm not sure an actress of mixed heritage can be said to be not true to history.

So on that basis I think that's a non-issue.

As for the programme, not seen it so I have no idea how accurate it is if it is intended to be so.

Given the Ptolemy dynasty was known for intermarriages there's zero evidence to suggest she was black or of mixed race especially when there are multiple statues, busts, and drawings of her that show exactly what she looked like and what features she had. If you want to know how the ancient Egyptians drew people of different ethnicity then here you go

This attempt by certain people to 'blackwash' history is utterly bizarre.

That is interesting, can you link to a picture of Cleopatra from the period as well please?

From what I could see there is no concrete evidence to point to who her mother actually was so I think it's unimportant tbh.

Now Daniel Craig playing Gandhi or Idris Elba playing Queen Elizabeth, yeah I can see there's an issue with historical context.

This, not so much

Edit: I'm surprised if people are that bothered though that they're not protesting at every other Church that has imagery of a white Jesus when the dude was Palestinian.

Don't care about the colour of the lead actress. Doesn't bother me. But I'm not going to watch anything narrated and produced by Jada Pinkett Smith.

"Season 1" <-- That's optimistic :D

Irrespective of the race-swapping controversy, it appears to be yet another badly made, low quality product and that is what it's rightly being hammered for by the critics on the 'Left' & 'Right' and by independents, and not even the belief that "we did something progressive, you should love this" can save something this poorly done.
