Client unhappy with me posting a few images of there wedding day on my Facebook page

I can see why they are upset. I'm not a wedding photographer but I'd say that the clients really should be the ones that get to see the captures of their day before posting it to drum up business (I'm guessing that's how they see it).

Did they specifically tell you not to do this after the shoot or after you posted a few photos and then you posted some more?

Say sorry and offer post wedding shoot for 2 hour free of charge, and promise not to post it online

Just say sorry and learn from this. A photoshoot will never work if they hate you.

Some couples will be annoyed if you don't post their wedding online for all to see, some will be annoyed if you do. Bring it up after a shoot to gauge whether that is something they would/wouldn't like.
When I do it, I password protect the blog post until the couple give the green light for public consumption.

If not another shoot, something like a free large sized print or two of their favourite shot would be a reasonable apologetic gesture, just a little cherry on top of whatever service you are already delivering.

Put images on a disc, and label each one like, Rude dick with his bride ;)

The message was OTT but i can imagine emotions were a bit high at the time, I would maybe do something like get a great photo of the two printed on a cheap canvas as form of an apology or something like that, If this is your business you dont want bad things being said.

I takes an age getting a good name, but 5 mins to get a bad name.

He does sound a little emotional. He says he did, but did he specifically asked you not to post any up before you did?

Facebook? lol I'd be absolutely livid if someone fed a pic of me to that cesspit of degenerates especially when I specifically asked them not to!

Posting a pic of someone to Facebook when they specifically ask you not to is a horrible and truly evil act, I wouldn't do that to my worst enemy. You've messed up big time to be honest, it's not just about Facebook, it's about trust. Now they'll be thinking all sorts of bad things about your lack of respect for trust, like "what about all the pics he took of our girls etc, he'll be sending them to all his buddies" and what not.

I wouldn't be too fussed, but I know my other half would be hugely annoyed if that happened to her. Surely the logical and professional choice would be to ask their permission first (unless you did?)?

Many wedding togs use FB for showing their work, it's free advertising and works really well, As for the sending kid's to friends comment, your just being pathetic now.

He made a mistake, and was asking other people their opinion, i doubt he's in a peado ring

Oh? Sounds like you're the type that goes round telling people that bloke xyz must be a paedo because you saw him talking to a kid one day.

How ridiculous. I hope that you're never called up for jury duty one day!

Op made a mistake, op has a chance to make it right. That's about as complex as it gets right now.

Personally I'm a little surprised when I've seen photographers posting wedding pics hours after a wedding - unless I'd got explicit permission from the couple involved I'd have thought it better to wait a reasonable time before using any images for publicity reasons.

Agree with An Exception - some people have extreme attitudes in either direction - some like to see their wedding day splashed around (and will be a bit down if they aren't) and others will get very upset if they don't have a bit of control over it.

Only 2 couples have said they didn't want any pictures posted online whatsoever that I've shot before, which was fine. Every other couple have been more than happy for a small percentage of pics to be posted up before main delivery, and in all cases the comments have always been along the lines of "can't wait to see the rest!" and the like.

I think it's more of a thing with their friends and family, they get tagged, their guests and those that couldn't make it get an early look and get amped up and so on.

Of course not all people are like that, each to their own I guess.

Our wedding photographer did this to us and we found out whilst on our honeymoon.

We were not impressed. Pretty poor show in my opinion as we had no say in what was posted on a public Facebook page and had not been told this was going to happen (or even asked if it was OK).

The message is poorly worded but actually I think it also conveys the complete outrage your actions cause people. It is poor form in my opinion (and that of many others too).

Your client should always be the first people to see their photos (other than you obviously). I hazard a guess that if you had done so, they would have happily given their permission for images to be posted on your Facebook page.

I wouldnt hire you, I tend too find that people who think they are good or talk about their "different style" are never as good as they think they are. I know some of the best photographers in the business and they never talk about how good their work is, they just shoot.

You were in the wrong and while I did think the persons response was wrong, after seeing your "personality" come out in this thread, his response was probably the right one.

I really don't agree with posting wedding images on Facebook if the couple don't want it. You should ask permission and if they say no then there's your answer, some people appreciate privacy. If you forced me to have images on your Facebook page or website I'd go elsewhere, there are plenty of photographers out there that don't need your photos for free advertising.

No way in a million years will ill give them free prints ! If someone is rude to me like that **** em , To be honest my work is well above average for photographers in my area , this is the only guy out of 10 weddings that has been a gurk ! every other couple has asked me to post a sneak peek of photos . I am a documentary photographer this is how I role, :) , just because a lot of you follow the crowd , I have my own style and way of doing things, The bride was ok with me posting photos but her husband wasn't , a little mis communication, What bad can he say ? Oh don't hire him he will post your snaps on the internet before you see them lol , clients look at two things , one = How good your photos are , well mine are bloody amazing & two your attitude and how you interact with people when doing your job , again I am one of the most chilled out fun people too be around when shooting a wedding , I smile non stop and make everyone feel at ease and capture there day in the best possible way.

May sound a little cocky but I am good at what I do , if I wasn't people wouldn't hire me.

One thing that makes me good is this is not a profession for me , It's a hobby and I enjoy every moment of capturing peoples weddings for them.

Cheers.

Nice attitude OP  you come across as a right arrogant ****

At first I had some sympathy from you. It at least seems like a bit of an honest mistake, the guy was rude to you, and as you said "lesson learned"

But then you posted this.

Honestly, I'm glad you're getting work from it, I know how hard it is to build yourself a rep and to get regular work but to post such an arrogant, self loving cocky post...jesus wept.

Especially the "May sound a little cocky but I am good at what I do , if I wasn't people wouldn't hire me."

Have you SEEN how many utterly **** photos/graphers you see around getting regular work all the time?! heard of the eBay photographers etc? The guy had a point with his "wise up" comment. I've not seen your work, I've no doubt you're good at what you do, but I doubt you're the next David Bailey.

The guy was a dick to you, but you sound like you need taking down a peg or two. Take it on the chin, remove the images, say you're sorry and learn from it.
