£16500! wtf were they thinking? Its just a crappy clio...

Thats the recomended retail price when do renault ever sell at the top price, it will be offered with 2k discounts within the first few months, your an idiot if you pay full price for any car more so a french one.

130 extra kg, with 14 extra bhp isn't too bad. The rear diffuser is cool. It may be £16.5k rrp, but we all know they'll be going for much less than that.

Possibly another big seller.

Ive always liked Clio's but I think Renualt have messed up with the new one. Saw one yesterday and it looked ugly!

I dont like them at all. I dont like the 197 version of the new model too.

Bring back the old model that has just been replaced. MK4 :)

The problem with the extra weight is it will change the handling characteristics - the old ones were renowned for sharp response, feedback and general chuckability.

Those extra kilos will take the edge off the way the car behaves.

Looks wise - I've seen worse, dont look too bad but it does still look very French.

Cant say Im a fan of the styling of the new clio range, saw one in the flesh the other day and it looked awful, I dont think the front is too bad but the rear end is horrible.

And as pointed out, the £16,500 is the list price, Im sure deals can be done.

£16.5k? Wasn't the old one around £12k? That's a crazy amount of money for such a small car. I get the whole hot hatch thing, but seriously, only an extra grand for a Focus ST? I know where my money would go.

I'm reserving judgement till I drive one. I like the looks of them, in the metal (saw it at Autosport) it really had presence and not just because it was bigger.

For the weight, blame EU regs, inside they're not that much bigger so all the weight has gone on bigger doors etc.

As for it having 8 pots? Where does it say it's got 8 pots? Look like Brembo 4 pots to me, which isn't a bad thing to have by any mean stretch...

As posted before, 12k for the 182 was not its list price thats how much you coud get them for, 16.5k is the list price of the 197 not how much you can get them for..................

Why do idiots keep on going on about the weight?

It may weigh more but still has the same Bhp/Ton as a full fat 182 and the same 0-60 (6.9 seconds). Hardly slow.

At the end of the day a lot of it will be down to the way it drives and it does have some serious suspension, braking and aerodynamics to its name.

The tourqe on it is also over 200, at around 215 iirc.

I really can't see Renault making a mistake in the hot hatch market when they've made great cars such as the Williams, 172, V6 and 182.

No doubt later in the year or early 2007 there will be a Cup version arriving.

I look forward to seeing this car on the road.

But usually the lighter something is the nimbler it is, add more weight and it becomes less agile and lardy, no matter what you do with the suspension the more weight you have pushing against the direction your turning the worse.
