You have a valid point there paradigm.

So say if I chucked a clio 172 FF into a corner too fast and decided to brake for some stupid reason, would I have any advantage with ABS?

No, you'd still upset the handling of the car by thrusting the weight forward. Although given that it was for "some stupid reason" I guess one advantage would be darwinism.

You have to lock the wheels up first

Fortunatley the learning logic and adaptiveness as tyres and brake setups change are far better on a human than an ABS ECU.

Just to complicate things you can get the FF 182 with Cup packs which makes it the same set up as the Cup.

If you are thinking about buying a 182 get the 182 FF with Cup packs or 182 Trophy and ignore the 182 Cup. If you want a Clio Cup, buy a proper one and get the 172 Cup.

Yeah. Lower with a wider track.

If you have reservations about her driving it then you are right to, because that means you don't have full confidence in her, and she's going to crash it.

Ahh right I understand now. It's not just lighter then. Can you get the cup pack on the 172 though?

No you can get a 172 FF or a 172 Cup.

With the 182 you can get a 182 FF, 182 FF with Cup packs, 182 Cup and 182 Trophy.

So only the 182 can have the cup suspension and A/C, ABS etc.

The last 172 Cups could have aircon as an option, but no ABS. The FF 182 with cup packs gives you all the toys and the cup set up.

I suppose he could have added the 182 Cup spoiler pack to his 172. There are 2 cup packs that could be bought on the 182, spoiler and suspension.

Phase 1 172 - Available in normal or Exclusive trim, no handling differences between the 2 although Exclusives had different wheels if that makes a diff.

Phase 2 172 - Available in normal "full fat" and also in a Cup guise. No options available by Renault to make a normal 172 a cup, at all, ever. Climate (not air con

) was an option on later Cups as was silver paintwork.

182 - get's really confusing here, tried explaining it to my other half and she gets it now, but think her head almost exploded at one point....

He has the MK2a 172 with 15" BBS alloys that has the cup suspension on it apparently???

Only model to have BBS alloys were the Green 172 Exclusives, but they had standard 172 suspension.

They made 172 of them all in scarab green with full grey leather interior, so easy to know if he has one
