Thread title fails to deliver.

You sold a sporty Clio and bought a "sensible/grownup" chav car, how is the Impreza sensible or grownup? :p

Does not compute.

Nice car!

I got one too :) ... easy to get above sti power:

Decat (3 cats in these mofos, but just remove the centre if on a budget)
Panel filter
Re-map (Get an open source remap its cheaper and exactly the same + launch control - £300)

Standard WRX turbo takes upto 285bhp / 300ft torque

To get above 285bhp

Change the turbo... td05?
STI Injectors
Scoop
Remap
= 310bhp + :D

Have fun! Looks very clean ... join scoobynet

is that all ?

thats blooming good (for the price)
i might have to get one myself ;) lol

nice car mate

clio looks ace too, mines a PH2 though, but same colour as that, those wheels are really nice, i want a set of multi spokes on mine

Well didn't take long before buying stuff for it :p

60k service coming up, picked up a Samco intercooler hose kit and Prodrive backbox (both as fitted in the PPP). They should be here start of next week before it goes in for it's service, hopefully that'll give it some of that Subaru burble/misfire sound :p

That's the next thing on the list, then maybe a remap and that'll be it :)

Any point holding out for a prodrive centre pipe? I guess any will do as there's not exactly much to it.

Had the 60k service today, fitted the rear discs the chap I bought it from had but didn't have time to get fitted.

And most importantly it now sounds like a proper Impreza as I had my Prodrive backbox fitted. So much nicer than the pea shooter twin faux stainless pipes that come as standard.

Also fitted the Samco intercooler pipes and K+N panel filter last weekend, all of these things has made the car a lot better to drive already.

Pulls a lot smoother from lower down, there's not such a wait for everything to start happening. Not necessarily more powerful, just smoother which make it feel a lot better.

I think a remap with supporting mods gives anything from 260 to 280, that'd be with the mid and back section of exhaust, intercooler pipe and filter I guess.

Tempting to get it done, but that can wait as not wanting to go nuts. PPP on the cheap is all I'm aiming for, not wanting something tuned up to the limit, 260bhp and the good increase in mid range is plenty for me.

Some numbers and pretty pictures here as to what you get very easily :)

No big difference, servicing is only marginally more, petrol is an extra few quid a week but nothing much really.

The stuff that does cost more isn't that much more, tyres are an extra £25 a corner (and that's with me using 15s in the Clio), front pads £30 more, discs £50 more, so not huge numbers.

K+N panel filter last weekend.

Isn't the Scooby the same as the Legacy in that it works better with the original Subaru parts for the air filter? Two forums I visit specifically advise not going aftermarket for the air filter but I guess the Scooby could be different.

General consensus for both the Legacy and Impreza is to go with the STI panel filter rather than aftermarket.

There was a long article posted by some US remapping company about how the aftermarket filters (such as the HKS green mushroom of death) are worthless on the Impreza because the MAF is calibrated to the specific way the air flows through the system and non-standard filters interfere with it and make it read wrong.

They will happily map your car to compensate for this but find that once you've done so they perform the same as it did with the original filter.

Some back to back tests found the STi panel filter to be worse actually. It's only the older MAFs that really struggle with different filters, the newer cars tend to cope a lot better, it's only when you increase the diameter of the intake where the MAF sits that it causes a problem per say.

However it is generally regarded that the standard intake is good for 400bhp. But there is no harm in changing to a cone filter, so long as you have a good air feed, and heat shielding, it would be fine, plus the noise is lush :D And of course the appropriate remap to work properly..
