Hi
real noob at this
Kit
Asus P9x79 pro
Intel I7
16gb Kingston XMP ram
Crucial M4 256gb SSD
Geforce 550Ti
Corsair H100i

used the AI suite to overclock to 4679mhz I know its better to do it manually i wanted to start slowly at this. Anyway it crashes when I run Prime95 with the above message.
Any clues what I should look for

thanks in advance
Ossie

What settings did you use to get the overclock? i.e multiplier/vcore etc (maybey even bus settings because of the 4.679ghz seems like you may have changed it - if so the general consensus is to leave the bus settings along and over-clock with just the multiplier, main reason for this is that increasing the bus speed also directly effects the ram and so you end up overclocking both the cpu and the ram at the same time, and i'd say it could be this causing the unstable o.c - well this or not enough voltage on the cpu)

Hi, 8pack is your man on Asus can't find his overclocking thread, anyway read a few reviews about your mobo its a easy way to pick up tips about overclocking it.

Hi, again here's a review scroll down and read from the Bios down over and it tells you a little about overclocking.

I think in this forum they recommend to run at about 4.4 to 4.5ghz if you have good cooling plus voltage's are not to high.

Other x79 owner's will help you out, maximum core voltage is 1.35 according to Intel, the best thing to do is right your settings down when you try overclocking so you can keep an l on voltage settings and temps.

Hope this helps,

Thanks guys. trying to attach screen dump of my setting but I'm unable to.
Will look out 8packs threads.

not sure what has changed since AI suite does it all for you which suited me. All works ok until I stress it with Prime95.

Hi, again its nearly always best to overclock by the Bios, you did say your at 4.6ghz try reducing you overclock to 4.4ghz run P95 if it passes then slowly put up your overclock and retest. If it passes repeat till it fails say it reach's 4.575ghz reduce overclock to 4.550ghz, what are your temp's + CPU Core voltage like?

Ok, I've reluctantly followed your advise and....I have a stable overclock:D:D

at 4423mhz V core reads 1.366 and cpu temp at 50

Many thanks.

Didn't want to go this root encase I fried something, wouldn't believe the grief I've had from the other half when spending the money on this rig:rolleyes:.
Thought AI suite would be worry free and automatic oh well
thanks again

Hi, glad l could help a little, read 8 packs thread and remember to write down your settings as you try to over clock. Let use know how you get on, you could also visit the Asus forums as well for help.
