Clone of SSD not going well...

Hi all,

I am trying to clone my o/s disk onto a new samsung 840. I am using XXClone. But I cant seem to get it to write the MBR. I've used XXClone in the past with sucess but this is eluding me. I am on Win764bit, but sure I used xxclone on this before. I have already had to reset the SATA settings from IDE to AHCI, updated the firmware on the SSD and updated the bios on my MoBo (Asus P6T Delux).

Not sure what to do next. Considering just going ahead with a clone then trying a repair install off the windows disk with all other drives unplugged.

Any hints would be appreciated.
 
try with macrium reflect,its free

some software can have issues i know the 2011 version of acronis true image didnt work for me when i wanted to clone from a hdd to an ssd,
 
I think it might be working this time - I deleted the partition info on the SSD with the windows CD booted and tried again so am trying another clone.

Otherwise I'll have a crack at another software package.
 
Rather pleasingly, it did work and I can now boot from the SSD!

Another couple of questions.

Firstly when you right click on the SSD drive to get the properties menu you see the "readyboost" tab. Is this normal or has my SSD been misidentified as a giant USB drive (which I spose it is descended from in a way???)

Related to that, is there a way I can check whether Win7 is running TRIM and disabled Defrag on this drive?

Edit - I solve some of the probs. The "Samsung Magician" identified that Superfetch, defrag, and indexing was on, and that the AHCI setting had gone back to IDE (probably during BIOS update). These were bad things. I fixed all of these. It also said that Readyboost was not to be on but I identified that it is disabled anyway so good. Also, it recommended 10% overprovision so I did it.

So all I am worried about now is TRIM, how do I reassure myself its working?

Click on the Start Menu > Type CMD in the search box > Right click CMD icon > Run as Administrator > Type the following command: “fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify”, Press Enter.

If the result is “0″, TRIM is working properly.

If the result is “1″, TRIM is disabled.

If it's off:

Type the following command to enable TRIM: “fsutil behavior query|set DisableDeleteNotify = 0″

I got a zero so its on - thanks for that.

I think a lot of my problems were fixed when I noticed that AHCI had switched itself back to IDE in the BIOS update, & corrected it. The SSD now seems to be being recognised properly, no more readyboost tab, and the Windows performance index for HDD, which first showed I had gone from 5.9 to 7.3 has now gone up to 7.8.
 
Thanks for all your help on this. It looks like its all up and running now.

Next week, I'm upgrading from a GTX260 to a GTX660Ti gpu so you'll probably see me over there asking for help!
