Look around for a used R9 290, can cut GPU Price by 50% For almost the same performance.

Maybe i missed it but I don't think you have stated what the PC will be used for. Surely that is important before anyone advises on what, if any, changes should be considered.

Ah yea sorry. I had mentioned it in another post. Thus will be a small, 1080p 60fps gaming rig (hopefully!)

Original spec was good for the price, the 970 is a good deal faster than the 960. Depending on the game though the i5 build may come out on top.

Well I did it again, and went with the i5 build.

I can get some mild OCing with the MSI board, and I've gone for 3000mhz RAM

I know the 970 is better, but for the price, the 960 OC seems good, and yea, the games I play, it should be more then adequate, and I can always replace it in a years time or so.

The i5 build seems to have a better upgrade path, with better RAM support, and the OCing of non-K Skylakes.
