Close to pulling the trigger, thoughts?

Maybe i missed it but I don't think you have stated what the PC will be used for. Surely that is important before anyone advises on what, if any, changes should be considered.
 
Original spec was good for the price, the 970 is a good deal faster than the 960. Depending on the game though the i5 build may come out on top.

Well I did it again, and went with the i5 build.

I can get some mild OCing with the MSI board, and I've gone for 3000mhz RAM

I know the 970 is better, but for the price, the 960 OC seems good, and yea, the games I play, it should be more then adequate, and I can always replace it in a years time or so.

The i5 build seems to have a better upgrade path, with better RAM support, and the OCing of non-K Skylakes.
