I didn't think I'd be making this post today as in my mind, the very notion would be madness......
However, in the world we currently live in, I though it might be safer to consult the knowledge of many for either the actual law or opinion.

Swear words on clothing - is this a potential problem?
Turns out a nephew of mine is a fellow Muse fan. He has got a birthday coming up and has expressed interest in a Muse branded hoodie - https://store.muse.mu/uk/clothing/mens/will-of-the-people-graffiti-track-hoodie.html
On inspection, I can see that the album track listings are printed across the back and for any other Muse fans, they will be aware of the final track title.

Obviously it is ultimately his decision. He's very early 20s - so not like I'm considering a purchase for a minor. He still lives at home, parents don't have an issue.
What I really don't want to do is make a purchase and then hear at some point in the future there is any kind of "trouble" over it. I suspect the worst I'd hear would be a "please take that off" - if he is going to comply of course.....

Anyway, just wondered if there are any specifics on this - it's not exactly "public outrage" but I can definitely see some people being offended.

I think the worst that would happen would be someone might take mild offense, but they probably wouldn't say anything. The kind of person that would take offense would not cause him any serious "trouble". What are you worried about? Also depends where he wears it. You also have to be comfortable buying it for him, and if you don't approve, buy him something else.

I used to wear a t-shirt with "**** Communism" in red, all caps, across the front. The swearing wasn't starred out.

I never had any problems.

Did you wear it in China though? :) Such things just proclaim the wearer as an attention seeking misfit who has almost certainly never heard of Savile Row and would probably equate it with paedophilia, should it be mentioned.

Your good self and the narrative of your t-shirt excepted, naturally!

In my idiotic youth (and by youth I mean I was about 26 :() I wore a tshirt out that said ‘rape is no laughing matter’ on the front and on the back ‘unless you’re raping a clown’ with a cartoon type image of a clown bent over being rogered.

It was not a fun night out with that on.

I imagine ops nephew will be fine wearing that the muse tshirt and about.

wasn't there a video of a woman being harassed by a policeman a few years back because her tshirt said a swear word.

I think it specifically referred to a politician though

Well technically you could be nicked under sec.5 POA but you would have to be a bit of a loser cop to do it or the person wearing it failed the attitude test

The was a fairly prolific Cradle of Filth t-shirt in the late 90s which had the words "Jesus is a ****" in massive letters on the back. That caused a bit of a stir so reckon ops conundrum isn't going to cause too much trouble.

Back in the 70s I was warned by Coppers not to wear my Never Mind The ******** t-shirt even though there had been a court case and the word was deemed inoffensive.

And even OCUK have gone against the court case ruling :)

Funny, now today Police are dancing. What the hell...

totally normal for the dancing police force, they don't police they are just entertainers around to uphold the voices of the woke brigade.

how can they be focused on their job of keeping everyone safe and secure if they are faffing around dancing etc? yea your going to spot a terrorist whilst your acting like a teenager?
