Clothing with "swearing"

My gf has an edgy youngest sister and she has a couple of t-shirts that I cringe when she's wearing. I think it's Richard Dawkins quotes.
“Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings.”
And some....
TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND SCIENCE? TRY RELIGION!
I only cringe because I feel like I have to be on presidential security detail when I'm around her cos I'm always expecting some little 17 year old jihadist to spring from the crowd and attempt to murder her.

Yes I know that isn't swearing but generally blasphemy i guess fits the gig
:p

Thanks for all the replies - didn't get a chance to check back yesterday. Just wanted to address a couple:

"Don't be such an old fart" - I am not exactly young any more, middle aged. But at no point did I express any personal issue with this. I too had read a few stories of over-zealous police and items of clothing, so just wanted to check in. Didn't want to be involved with any purchase that could "cause an issue for anyone".
"Do you approve" - Of course, I have absolutely no problem at all with said item of clothing.
"First World Problems" - Remove all the first world problems from the various online forums and you wouldn't have a great deal left to chat about, certainly nothing that wasn't overly depressing.

I'd happily wear the hoodie myself - so OK, I'm mid-40s, but I can get away with a hoodie as much as the next middle-aged person wanting to re-live their youth!
We're in a very "sensitive" world at the moment, one I truly hope we grow out of - just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaching any new laws on "hurty feelings" before making purchase.

I don't have a problem with it but says something about the wearer and creator. They clearly lack the gift of vocabulary and have to revert to base comments and are a set of people I do not wish to engage with. It does rather depend on context though.

In my youth I had a Dead Kennedys 'Too Drunk To ****' Tee (buying the 12inch single from Woolworths was slightly embarrassing). Never had a problem although it is probably more about where and when you wear it. On a side note I also had the free 'Nazi Punks **** Off' Armband with the crossed out Swastika. Never did wear that!

Early 20s and you had to check with his parents hahahahaah wtf?
No, I didn't HAVE to check with his parents at all.
He lives at home and I felt it was just polite to ask their opinion before going any further. As expected, the response was "no problem at all".
However, for all I'd known I could have had a "While he's under my roof......" or "If he wants to spend his own money on cr*p like that then fine, I won't have other people spending......."
It was simply a cursory check-in before I placed the order.

I've never really understood the "lack of vocabulary" argument when it comes to using profanity. Where does the correlation come from?

I fail to see the problem? its words.
tell Salman Rushdie that.

that t-shirt I think is ok personally but let's not pretend that words can't cause offence. I imagine someone going out now with a Russian football shirt with a giant Z on the back may get some attention for instance.

that reminds me... I sold the car a few years ago now and my merch clothes are well worn out now.
mine was not as potentially missunderstandable as this one but I wonder if people would worry about wearing this at the moment incase someone gets the wrong idea.

I remember a few years ago when a vigilante group of "concerned citizens" beat the crap out of a pediatrician who moved into the area

Who remembers "T-Shirt Hell"?

Had a few from there which would likely get you arrested if you wore out in public these days and indeed probably banned from the forum for posting the slogan.

*Edit* Oh apparently the site still exists!

Oh dear. T-shirt Hell. Those were the days. :D :D :D

EDIT - Looks like the site is very much still alive. Still offensive, but nowhere near how bad it was years ago.

Back in the early to mid 90s there used to be a store tucked away on one of the middle floors of Afleck's Palace in Manchester that sold nothing but 'offensive' t-shirts.

just haughty snobs trying to look down on people.
I dunno, I wont lie and say i never use bad language but equally I do think it is cringe worthy when people swear all the time....... and yes perhaps it is me that is the problem but i do look a little negatively on those who seem to think it is cool or edgy to swear or wear tops they know some will find distasteful..... <shrugs>

mind you i think certain piercings or facial tatoos also say something about those that have them as well.....
