We're paying £322p/m for this ****** house. It's infested with spiders, beetles and slugs, the cooker wasn't working when we moved in, the shower is a joke, it leaks everywhere, the neighbours are loud chavs that play the same dance music day-in day-out, there's a fridge just sitting the hallway for no good reason, there are no bins inside or outside - their response was to "Look for one." which frankly is typical of their attitudes. One of the rooms has a floorboard completely broken, which they took their damn time fixing, my room door's lock is questionable, the house smells and the garden is a mess.

When I say mess, I mean the garden is like this:

EDIT: Not to mention there's a hole in the fence, and the iron gate is literally bent off it's hinges, it's not even a gate anymore.

Argh, anyone else suffering from stuff like this? Any advice?!

I just had to rant, they call themselves ClubEasy..there's nothing easy about them! They fob you off with excuses, pretend to deal with things, lie outright, but they're quick to take your money away. Bunch of *******.

Did you see the property before you moved in? From what you're describing, it's uninhabitable.

We did - but they rushed us around, and made us feel very uncomfortable and wouldn't show us the garden. As far as we were concerned, it was the best they had to offer for us.

It's hardly surprising you've got wildlife in the property with the garden in that state. Is it your rubbish?
I'm guessing that you've now entered into a contract until the end of the student year. Your local council will most likely have a team dedicated to private tenancy. I'd get onto them ASAP. It's also probably worth getting advice from your local CAB. Write down all the issues and take pictures, log phonecalls to the agency etc. Good luck!!

No, it was here when we got here!

We'll get onto the CAB, thanks for the advice. : )

Erm, why did you sign if you felt uneasy?

It sucks that you live in a dive, but there is no law saying you have to sign a contract. I wouldn't ask them to fix things. Read your contract, find where they're breaking it, tell them you're leaving based on those points.

You dont have a PC at that ****hole do you?

To be honest, whether you like it or not it's expected to have a thorough clean of any house, especially those previously occupied by students. Get all of you together, get a load of heavy duty bin liners and a set of gloves each and get to work.

You'll need to contact your local council to provide you with some new wheely bins, in the mean time you could go a few streets down and spread your rubbish amongst neighbours bins to get rid of the excess.

Woah. That's a horrible place to live in - where abouts in Hull is that?
I know you only had a rushed around look, I'm about to move into Suffolk Street in 2 weeks time, even I had time to look before having to drive back home down south.

Since you've signed it and if the contract is solid, the cleaning is up to you now.

you got shafted, it happens. Don't **** and moan just do something about it.

I would probably take pictures of everything give them x days to sort if not move out cancel any rent payments and start court proceedings to get deposit back.

Tbh I think you've shafted yourself. Why on earth would you sign the contract? There's billions of student houses in every city with a university, and this was what you settled for? Did you leave finding a house until last thursday? Jeez!

I'd pay a visit to the people who sold you that ****hole and have a word.

As a person who just moved out of a "Club Easy" Lincoln owned property last year I can tell you they are... lets say unhelpful to my calmness. They let us move into a house in which the shower room was over run with mould and spores of fungi. The oven was temperamental and burned stuff often, presumably couldn't keep a stable temperature, the floorboard in my room broke in the first week and they didn't fix anything until a few of our parents started threatening to call out private contractors and bill them. So at XMAS after a semester nearly they only just finish work, and then as I move out have the balls to charge me for them to take out the bin liners of the rubbish next door chucked over (and a trampoline frame - also ****** neighbours).

They go on about making things easier by providing the internet etc all inclusive, but we had to pay for that AND virgin media just to get a working internet service. The fire alarm broke one night and was ringing constantly for 4 days until they came out to 'fix' it and it just broke again because we found out they just blu-tacked the broken sensor. Basically the house was borderline derelict, rising damp was prevalent and AND THEY HAVE THE BALLS TO CHARGE above market rate, forced into a £65 a week contract for a room that was as small as a shed.

If I could get even with them... I would...

Phone your local Councils Enviromental Health department, and send them the pictures, who can force the landlord to clear up the mess under the Enviromental Protection Act damage by pests is the part they would use, but be aware if you are a lease holder the cost for doing this will probalby be passed down in service charges to you.

Go and kick off at them. If you keep kicking off and demanding things get sorted, they will. I learned from my time at uni that you have to get arsey with landlords as they are all a bunch of lazy ***** and nothing will get fixed unless you moan at them. Too many students are willing to live in crapholes and the landlords and agencies just assume you will do nothing about it and they will get away with it!

As spicypixel said, tell them that if they don't get the problems fixed, you will be getting contracters in to fix the problems and tell them they will be getting billed. That usually makes them do something.
