My mind is simply unable to grasp the enormity of this task.
Silly thread anyway, I don't really care if some people decide to start the car with their foot on the clutch rather than checking for neutral first. Just as long as they realise it's wrong![]()
I never do, mainly because I always leave the car in gear so the first thing I do when I get in is take it out....so why waste time pressing the clutch when I KNOW its not in gear.
As for the safety thing and having to press the clutch no matter what, why don't they simply make it so you can't start the car if its IN gear AND you don't have the clutch pressed? All bases covered that way without having to press the clutch if you don't want, my bike does it and that's 10 years old.
Always do it, it's part of the starting ritual!
Unlock
Get in
Clutch depressed and held
Key to Ignition
Seatbelt
Push button to start *Push*
And away!![]()
No, the clutch only temporarily disengages the gearbox. As long as the clutch isnt pressed the input shaft will still spin.
I find that some people need to pull off in a set routine, when I first passed it was in neutral and handbrake on regardless of the situation and if I tried anything else it'd all go wrong.
My girlfriend has tried to run be down on numerous occasions because she doesnt start with the clutch in![]()

Car in gear = clutch down
Car not in gear = no clutch down
I'm not going to put it down if I dont need to, do have to put my foot on the brake though, bloody megane.
