Clutch down, engine on?

Silly thread anyway, I don't really care if some people decide to start the car with their foot on the clutch rather than checking for neutral first. Just as long as they realise it's wrong ;)

I'll accept it's wrong.. as long as you accept it's also just better ;)
 
I never do, mainly because I always leave the car in gear so the first thing I do when I get in is take it out....so why waste time pressing the clutch when I KNOW its not in gear.

As for the safety thing and having to press the clutch no matter what, why don't they simply make it so you can't start the car if its IN gear AND you don't have the clutch pressed? All bases covered that way without having to press the clutch if you don't want, my bike does it and that's 10 years old.

Clutch depressed and held
Key to Ignition
Seatbelt
Push button to start *Push*

Based on an earlier post, it appears bike warning lights saying you're in gear aren't always reliable. Imagine the annoyance when you can't start your car because it thinks you're in gear ;) well you get the picture. That plus French electronics = fail.
 
My old R56 Cooper was a Push Button start so you had to put the clutch down to start it anyway, I carry on doing it out of habbit anyway..
 
Always do it.

1: My shed of a metro first car needed all the help starting it could get.

2: When I worked a summer for Kodak, a lot of the older drivers parked the fleet cars in gear and no handbrake, so it was as easy to dip the clutch and saved checking neutral.

I passed my test around 2 months ago and was always told to start a car in this manner and continue to do it now due to habbit.

Might be something I forget about though as the years go on... who knows :)
 
My girlfriend has tried to run be down on numerous occasions because she doesnt start with the clutch in :(
 
I put my foot on the brake and clutch when starting my car.

The car is always parked in gear. I don't want to be the noob who's car has done the below because my handbrake failed.

Car in gear = clutch down
Car not in gear = no clutch down

I'm not going to put it down if I dont need to, do have to put my foot on the brake though, bloody megane.

I think the point is though you always have to put the clutch down, as after the 1 second of engine starting you need to push the clutch to select gear.
