I bought COD4 a couple of weeks ago and while I have improved over time I still keep getting wasted and seem out of my depth against some players. At the moment I am using a Microsoft optical mouse and wondered if I would gain by buying a better mouse ? If yes then can anyone recommend me some good choices ?

Thanks

Yes it will help improve your game. Everyone has different tastes and its best to get to a store and try some out. Im using a Razer Deathadder which I love (before that I had a Razer Copperhead)

Wouldnt tweaking be seen as a cheat and be picked up by punkbuster ? I want to play by the rules and was hoping a better mouse might get my aiming a bit more upto speed because at the moment I seem to get blasted a lot more than I blast !! Will take a look at the mouse brands you mention.

Not really tbh, I've been playing with a cheap wireless mouse, on a 12 ms slow monitor, and still got a total KDR of 1.9, noticed no true change when I tryed a diamondback the other day.

no most of the tweeks are to the fps, there is one that turns off decals which PB does not allow but most of them are just about getting better performance.

example I run all my graphic down low. looks horrible but I get a solid 125fps all the time

Why, is the difference between 70 ish and 125 noticable ?
Im comfy with 40 or 45 fps usually but why would you run a game that runs @ 70 fps maxed with AA etcetc @ low ?

I cant think of a reason why you'd do that. Playing the game on low to get ridiculously high FPS just seems silly. Surely the game is much less enjoyable at that level?

Hmm never really thought of the frames per second performance . I am running a oldish ati x800 gto2 with a amd 4200 dual core 939 cpu. Dont tell me a upgrade is required lol !

ps is there anyway of checking the fps that my system returns on cod4 ?

To jump further for starters ;)
So the background don't blur when going iron sight & just getting the drop on other players who are not set up as well as you.
For competitive play really & not really needed for the casual player using Publics.

My current mouse is a MX518 with on the fly adjustment. Superb for switching between Sniper sensitivity, War monger sensitivity & vehicle sensitivity.

I have the mx518 its a great mouse think its the 1800dpi version. have it set to full speed dpi on the mouse and then adjust the ingame sensitivity which works really well

a better mouse may help you a little but the only way to get to the same skill as the better players is to put the hours in. also some people have the talent so it comes easy others have to work and work to get near them.

A good mouse can help but it takes a bit of practice. When I first changed from a mx518 to my new G5 it took a good bit of practice before I was seeing the return from it.

I'd say get a logitech, having tried various gaming mice I'd always go back to a logitech. They are the most comfortable mice I find for a long gaming session.

yeah get a logitech g5 don't go for the g7 as it seems slighty more heavy than the g5 and not tryed the new g9 but i may have to give it a try on my new rig

As most people have already said..and will say. The main three that stand out from the rest are the Logitech G5, MX518 and the RaZer DeathAdder.

I used to own a G5, and let me tell you...the difference from going from a 'standard' mouse to the G5 was incredible. I didn't tend to use the weight system as i saw it as a bit of a gimmick. Had that for over year and now own a RaZer DeathAdder which is just as...or if not better in my opinion.
