COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

Editing to say I think this game is total rubbish & nowhere near as good as either COD4/MW2 in almost every possible way you care to imagine.

Guess Activision did a great job on hype as always with their pre-release media as I was suckered into thinking this was going to be great when the reality is its pretty poor. MP especially looks about 10 years old & plays the same. Makes me appreciate even more how fantastic both MW2 & COD4 are on PC.

Just watched it and hmmm nothing at all seemed to be from pc, every in game piece I seen clearly showed a blue 'X' to reload ?

PC has full 360 controller support as well onthis as confirmed by the devs on their official forums. Look closely it must be PC as the 360/PS3 cannot display anywhere near that level of detail either ingame or the ingame cutscenes shown

Looks pretty high res textures in places as well for a change check out the texture bump mapping detail it may even be using DX11 in places.

I love Steam, and they do some fantastic deals quite regularly, but they absolutely suck at pre-order prices.

P.S. Why is MW2 still £39.99 on Steam?

They have been told by Activision to not ship until Monday as I had my pre-order with them until they emailed everyone last night to advise they would not ship until monday so I cancelled & went with the one mentioned earlier in this thread & they have already shipped mine so I get it tomorrow (but obviously it is unplayable or installable until 12:01 09/10/11 due to Steam activation). Order from them & you run the risk of not getting it in time for launch as Royal Mail will no doubt be snowed under with all the COD BO copies they have to deliver On Monday/Tuesday Steam for once is actually the quickest way to play this as you can pre-load but its a bit more as always

Mine just arrived as well so looks like Royal Mail were instructed to hold back until today for delivery as expected.

7.38GB single DVD (MW2 was on 2 DVD's) so it must be highly compressed data.

Registered the serial number on Steam & pre-loading now as Valve allow this I think on Steamworks retail copies

Yeah I am surprised it doesn't let me install the data off the disc yet - but I figure it's a bit silly me downloading 8 gigs when I can just wait till tomorrow.

Yeah I know its so dumb as its encrypted & locked anyway. I heard the game exe is not even installed this time either you get it when Steam decrypts apparently.

I pre-loaded as the unlock time was 1am now its been set back to 8am which is so unfair as its not like Activision have not already made massive profits on this even on PC it will sell well over a million like MW2 did yet Steam/Activision treat PC gamers all like pirates as if the 8 hour delay will make any difference they could unlock it now & it would not hurt them financially

Its not playable for anyone in UK right now except the lucky 1 or 2 who happened to be installing before they stopped the game by applying the region lockout. I preloaded this morning after my DVD came but by the time it had finished the game was displaying the same message as everyone else saying its not yet unlocked at all.

Australia & Pacific regions are working fine but rest of the world (you know the biggest PC gaming markets known to man ) have to wait until at least 8am tomorrow morning although some are guessing the retail keys like mine will unlock @ 1am like MW2 did but who knows

Shockingly poor PR from Valve/Activision but there you go MW2 only sold around 2M copies to date on PC their focus is 360 as it sold over 10M copies despite PC as always being the only version worth buying ...........

Go Go Go UK retail is live & working now

Defaults to 1024x768 @ 4:3 so needs a little adjusting. Supports x16AA & wireless 360 gamepads. But gamepads are only active ingame not in the menus at all.

As per why I originally created this thread gfx look pretty good for the age of the engine & FPS is obviously insane even with max everything Highly polished looking menu & very smooth to play

I was talking about SP. MP does look pretty dated but SP looks ok considering the age of the engine. Over 7000 people from UK alone on the MP servers now its very easy to navigate the MP UI & already a little laggy plus snipers are making it tough

Nearly finished SP now. It flatters to deceive I'm affraid to say its pretty small.

CODMW2 & COD4 are far better SP experiences this is pretty lacking & those scenes in the gametrailers video were the highlights of the entire game
Looks like Activision pulled a fast one here by skillfully editing it to make the SP seem more enticing.

Overall its very lacking in any of the cinematical greatness & atmosphere both COD4/MW2 had for that alone its a letdown but the MP gfx are considerably worse than SP & MW2 is a long way ahead of this in every way I can think of

I would say its not anything more than an average game with a very dated engine & boring console focused gameplay.

I would give it 5/10 just for a few cool touches & being polished although its not without faults like several levels for no reason have major lag & mini spikes which cause serious stuttering & the gamepad has a major bug where you cannot even progress in 1 level without switching to the keyboard to operate a sling weapon

This type of game is best left on consoles for 10 year olds I seriously doubt it will sell the 18M+ copies MW2 did

Completed it now. 15 SP levels took 7 hours on easy.

Its a massive letdown in so many ways. I am one of the biggest PC gaming fans & spent a lot of money on hardware & always bought all my games ( I have well over 250 full priced games alone).

But you know what I can now totally understand why people chose to pirate PC games when they buy something like this & its a letdown..............

If this game were made by IW or Valve or Crytek & used the Crysis2 game engine I would still not care much for it as the gameplay is so old & stale (COD2 with different weapons is the best way to describe it gameplay wise).

After about 10 mins you have already experienced all the variety the gameplay has to offer Sure they give you a few vehicles to drive & shoot from but its all on the rails & generic.

I could not think of any memorable locations or characters they are all so bland & cut n pasted from superior games. I loved COD4 & Even MW2 (Spec Ops is awesome). BO is not even in the same league as Half Life2, Doom3, Prey or RTCW. Its a mediocre MW2 clone with sub par graphics, tedious gameplay & some shockingly poor graphics in MP (MP appears to use a cutdown game engine & is noticeably poorer to SP).

This is effectively a reskinned COD4/MW2 will all the best bits taken out or cloned via copy/paste. The story is as bland as all those crappy US TV shows where you cannot tell what is going on most of the time & lose interest as its all so uninvolving & obviously an afterthought

That much anticipated Zombies is dire as well & would have been dated 8 years ago

Good luck to anyone who can enjoy this but I doubt its going to be fondly remembered by most PC gamers.

Hows the recoil on MP? (Coming from SoF2, I kinda like recoil, as it sets you apart from the spray n prayers! ) Ive just decrypted the files and installed before heading off to work, so wont get to play for another 5hrs!

Non existent recoil! MP is currently ruined already by sniper campers. You have to upgrade your XP to even get a sniper weapon or upgrades to other weapons. Which is hard when most of the other players are already cheating & hacking & or camping so you cannot even move a few feet without being killed again. After you get killed 3 times you become a spectator & if you quit you lose all your XP so you are forced to wait/watch for ages

All 1920x1200 16xAaA Max gfx. Yep it is 2010 & yep this is how bad it looks in many places! Cannot believe I just threw away £34.99 on this trash Hope this prevents others from doing the same even if the gameplay was amazing (its not BTW) the dated graphics are a big downer anyway. MP is actually worse or close to these

Yep you got it thats what they are giving us here TBH in places it looks better but overall its pretty lacking & shocking for a 2010 PC big budget release Kane & Lynch2 called & want's its level back (I'm joking about how they almost 1:1 copy K&L2 level wise but K&L2 I though looked incredible this looks anything but!! & people were complaining about K&L2 graphics wait until they see/play this it will really bring out the erage

Source engine games like HL2 + Episodes, L4D1+2 even look better overall as they have a reasonable art design & decent shader FX this is just COD2 all over again with dated graphics
