Sorry if there's already a thread for this, but whenever I've tried to launch MW2 multiplayer, it just crashes straight away! Singleplayer works perfectly.

It spontaneously stopped working - haven't changed any settings or anything

Tried system restore - didn't work
Reinstalled the game on steam - also didn't work
Noob thing this but I lowered my gpu clocks to see if that wold do anything but it didn't.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to get it working again?

Cheers

¬¬ Could someone who actually likes the game help me?

Oh and if you didn't guess, it worked perfectly before about 3 or 4 days ago

Does the screen freeze when you load it up or what are the exact symptoms? If it freezes before the menu or during the menu, just give it 2-3 minutes and it should start working. Some weird but known problem with Steam and MW2.

here's some screenshots of what happens:

then it's just a black screen, I go into task manager and it says it's not responding so I end it.

That any help??

i've tried running it in safe mode as well as normal too

Plug a microphone in, i get this for MW1 all the time. Not getting MW2. But im sure my suggestion might work.

So did you try giving it 2-3 minutes? Just letting it sit there, don't even mess it up by opening up task manager.

I tried leaving it for about 5 mins but nothing happened. I shall try keeping tm open though

Edit: just tried keeping tm open, couldn't alt + tab it so I had to c+a+d it once again

mine is doing something similar

My game is crashing when loading certain multiplayer maps.
(It's crashing to desktop & I'm using windows 7)

I've played about 300 hours worth and it's only just started happining, I think it's been sinse that micro patch that fixed the carepackage speed knifers.

Any ideas?

I've played 101 hours of MW2 multiplayer. I haven't changed anything on my system yet now I'm getting BSOD 0x0000000A and 0x0000007E mid game randomly, and if I'm lucky I just get the IW4MP.exe has stopped working instead. This has been happening since late december.

I'm not overclocking, all components tested and fine. ARGH! Will have to re-install tonight and see if that alleviates it.

IW4MP.exe has stopped working, thats the one I get when loading certain maps. I've verified the files with steam, I'll let you know if it fixes it.

I've verified the files and defragged the cache... still get it.

I've completely removed all traces of the game then re-installed, 30 mins later. IW4MP.exe has stopped working.

Although I never changed anything anyway, I've gone round and updated all my drivers but seemingly It feels like I have beaten 15 dead horses instead.

*RAGE*

How after so many faultless hours does it decide to do this. I come home and want to play some MW2, that's all. The mind boggles and I'm really disappointed. Time to test Activisions tech support.

EDIT: Is there a legal standpoint on this? As a consumer I have been sold faulty goods. Yes it is a digital download but surely if it no longer works I have the right to a refund? I'm going to be pretty upset if I have to put this £40 on the shelf so to speak when I'm not finished playing it, just because it's got bugs.

I figured out why it happens, at first I though my install was corrupted, done all the **** to it etc. This happens on 4 of our pc's now, basically it's been happening since the new patch a couple of days back. It also will only happen to the HOST! :(

go into sound and then highlight your speakers then click properties then click the advanced tab then make sure you have 16bit 44100 cd quality selected this should sort out your IW4MP.exe issue (same issue was found with COD4 IW3MP.exe)

BSOD - 0x0000000A - this can be caused by dodgey drivers, or worst case failing hardware.

Is your Machine new, what O.S?

Thanks for that Stalker, I was running slightly higher it seems so I've changed it down. Activision support have just asked for a DxDiag so fingers crossed they might spot something too. Going to test the sound thing now.

I don't use Xfire or EVGA precision (but I was going to get that to monitor my temps). My GFX cars heatsink can be mega hot to the touch but I have the same card in my other machine and that's fine.

I built the computer from second hand mobo and chip. Everything else bar the GFX card is brand new (back in September anyway) and the GFX card was bought when they first came out (8800GTS).

I've primed it and mem tested it without any problems with blue screens, they just happen inside MW2. It must be a driver issue but It's odd how its taken 100 hours on MW2 to rear its head.

I appreciate the input guys. I just want a months play out of it till BC2!

Response from Activision after supplying my DxDiag.

Hello Daniel,

Your page file is rather large try shutting down all background applications before running the game.

1) Go to the Start bar and select Run. (If you are on Vista or Windows 7, hit the Windows key and the R key at the same time)
2) In the Run window, type in msconfig and hit enter.
3) Once the utility comes up, go to the Startup tab and hit the Disable All button.
4) Next go to the Services tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” checkbox and then hit the Disable All button.
5) Hit the OK button and close the utility, and restart your computer when prompted to.

Please note that this method will shut down all background applications including your virus scanning software. If later on you decide you want to re-enable programs that were closed down, you can undo these changes by simply un-checking the Hide all Microsoft Services box and hitting Enable All on both the mentioned tabs.

The Windows OS allows you to have lots of different programs running at the same time. Sometimes these programs do not play happily together and create problems. Many modern games are very demanding on your computer. Some game problems can be solved by making sure that the game is the only program on the field. Limiting the number of other applications and programs running can help your system and program performance across the board, not with just games. Virus scanning and other security programs often use a large amount of memory and access the files on your harddrive frequently. This frequent harddrive access can slow your computer down if these programs are running in the background while the game is running. You should shut down as many programs as possible to lower the amount of
memory being used before you launch the game. For Windows XP your system should only be using about 100 to 120 MB of memory before launching the game. For Windows Vista or Windows 7 that number should be around 700 to 1000 MB. You can check the amount of memory being used by clicking on the Performance tab in the Task Manager.

Once you complete the steps above then your system is ready to run the game. These steps can clear up a lot of problems you may be experiencing. Your performance may also increase because you have more memory free and more resources are available to the game. Not only can this make games run more smoothly, but applications can benefit from this, as well.

Great, disable all my driver support for display, sound and mouse? Those are the only background items bar 3DS Max, Windows Security Essentials and the usual iPhone/apple stuff for iTunes which aren't enabled at start up anyway. Ironically I'm only using 1GB of RAM and that's with Firefox and Windows Live mail open.
