Hi.

I was at Omega Sektor last night playing CoD4 over the LAN with a load of mates. Was a great laugh.
So much so that i want to get it for my PC.

My main monitors are both 1920x1200 jobbos, so i'll be needed a video card capable of that, but i havnt read up on video cards for years so ive no idea whats what now.

Rest of spec that matters for games is a Q6600 & 4Gb ram.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Runs great at that res here (a few effects like motion blur and depth of field turned off because they are irritating), spec in sig.

At 1920x your best off going for the 4870, 9800GX2 or GTX260 - while an 8800GT is perfectly playable at 1920x1200 with all settings maxed - it does dip to around 40fps in places which isn't ideal if your playing online...

My 9800GX2 pretty much demolishes the game at that res with all the options up, but in the most intense firefights the game can still drop to 20-30fps for a few seconds.

A few benches of cod4@ 1920x1200, all details high, 4xaa.

Dips down quite low in places, thats with an 8800gts 512@stock.

Got a budget?
Nope. :p.
Whatever it takes. :). :p.

The 4870 looks a steal at that price. Why is it so cheap?
What the equilivent nVidia card?

Forgot, ive got a Corsair HX620W PSU. If that makes a difference to the card choice.
And its gotta be quiet.

It's not cheap, it's £180 quid odd. People have been getting mugged off by nVidia for a few years so think its normal to pay £400-£500 for fantastic tech!

Luckily this has changed now thanks to ATI! :)

The equivalent Nvidia card is pretty much the GTX 260. But at this price, the 4870 is maximum win. PSU will run it fine. Not sure of the noise; I know the 4850s are proper loud as they get very hot, but the 4870s have dual slot coolers so they might be better.

its not like ati never charged that amount for cards, right? right???

but anyway, nobody can say ati doesnt deserve praise for finally shaking up the market.

never goes below refresh rate for me :) although i wouldnt advice getting 2 watercooled 8800 GTX's lol.

a 280 should be fine :D

oh, this reminds me, i need to update rig (made the move from 21" CRT to 24" sexual samsung)

I think it was taken out of context.

Compared to the equilivent nVidia card, depending where you look, its upto £100 cheaper.
Just seems odd.

Looks like the 4870 is the one to go for then.

512Mb or 1Gb...?
