COD4 resolution for both the 360 and PS3 is 600p (1024x600p 2xAA).

Why would you care?
600p Resolution is very low for this day & age....

There many people like myself that buy an xbox360 or PS3 because they expect these next gen Consoles to be able to at least handle running there games at the lowest HD Resolution of 720p...

So it looks like..if you want HD gaming then the only way is by using a gaming PC....

So ****ing what? It's still the best looking game on the console. It's clearly HD, it's better looking than any 720p game I've seen on the format... or 1080p for that matter. You can include either console on that too.
I'll happily take any 600p game as long as it looks and plays like this.

The fact is, you wouldn't know it was 600p if it wasn't reported, because you really can't tell from the graphics in the game.

So ****ing sick of people talking nonsense, who don't know what they are talking about, or purposely making a mountain of a molehill.

PGR4 looks better :D

Isn't anything above 480p "HD"?
Either way, I don't see why people care, still looks great and if it wasn't for stories floating around, the majority of people would never know.

When the 360 was released MS made a point of stating that all games would be minimum 720P and with 2X AA (not 100% certain of exact details). But I believe the EDRAM that provides the "free" AA can only be done on a slightly lower res than 720P (ie like COD4).

I think this is an exception rather than then rule, too date only 4ish games on 360 have not been 720P. I think games like Gears of War have proved that you can have 720P AA and loads of fancy effects, but the odd studio has cut corners (for cost or time constraints) to get the game looking amazing (AA and other effects) that can only be done at slightly lower resolutions without having a performance hit.

That is my understanding anyway. Not a major problem unless it is happening in every game, which would obviously imply they have hit hardware peaks sooner than they thought, which I don't think is the case yet, there is more "juice" in their I think that may be untapped.

As if anyone here would actually be able to notice the difference if they weren't told.
On a 1080p screen you would be able to notice a big difference between 600p (upscaled to 1080p )and 1080p native....

(as on the back of the box of this game it says 720p/1080i/1080p which normally means it can run at these resolutions)

On cod4 I didn't notice with the AA going on.

but, it's kinda funny, give it three years time, when we'll be playing even better looking games on our 360s, "now in glorious SD!" :p

Gears of War does not have AA of any description, UE3 engine didn't allow it.

Is this the future of games? With the PS2 and Xbox we had game sequels that looked astonishingly better than their prequel... but at this rate, will we just have sequels that run in a higher resolution?

As others have said, I couldn't give a flying **** if it's running at a bit less than 720p, it's a stunning looking game and I can't say I've noticed many jaggies when playing on my HD 50" DLP, certianly not as much as some true 720p games that's for sure.

Wether it's 'truly HD' or not, they have created a stunning looking, jaggie-free game that runs liquid smooth despite all that's going on on the screen.
