Codemasters F1 2010 X360/PS3 (contains important question about 2011 game!!!)

Unfortunately I don't have the space for a wheel, it's just controllers for me until we move out and get some more space.

Just watching that first look video, is it me, or is there a delay between him turning the wheel and the car turning? Is that normal for a wheel?

Worrying me also and I have experienced some "lag" in Grid - but not Dirt 2.

The uploader says
Just a note on the input lag guys, I'll be making a video with the steering settings. The default does have a 5% deadzone with steering saturation at 100%, so you can reduce that in increasing sensitivity. On saying that it would be nice to have say a 3% deadzone but the game only works in chunks of 5% at a time.

Interestingly the settings are different in Dirt 2 for me, so figure it is a deadzone related issue.

He also says
working on a race weekend video as we speak :)
:D I like his videos.

Logitech force EX all the way :)

:) ah well DFGT for me, if I can ever got a stand sorted for it. At the moment I rest the wheel on my lap using one of this things you sit on... Erm, it really doesn't work too well. I need a proper, sturdy stand to give it some wellie into the corners... Sure my skills in racing games would be better if I had a decent wheel setup.. :p

Couldn't justify the extra £50-60 at the moment. If I find myself using it a lot (and probably wearing the wheel out I will upgrade). Logitech produce some excellent wheels though. Got mine attached to my PC desk - had to get a bigger desk to accomodate it though, the old one was a little too small. Even if I am not quite as fast as with my controller, at least the overall experience will be better.

I am confused now, what is the best wheel for the 360? Without spending hundreds, the musts are clutch, brake and throttle pedal, shifter (or at least paddles on the wheel) and obviously a wheel lol.

I you want X360 support and clutch then only the Fanatec Turbo S wheel has this.
Depends if you want a boys wheel or a mans wheel, lol.

Mans!!! On the cheap though lol.

£300+ for that bloody wheel! You are having a laugh right lol, I was thinking £150 MAX! lol

lol yeah to be honest Logitech DFGT would fit the bill, if only it worked on a 360. Why not have a look at the MS wireless wheel? I know, its not as good but its a damn sight cheaper and its going to make the game feel more realistic in your living room...

Or grab a second hand PS3, DFGT and buy the game for PS3... lol be cheaper then maybe £300 for the fanatec jobbie.. Although that is a rather fab wheel Mr Latte recommended... :)

Get what you pay for, its better value than a G27.
If you had PS3 you could pick up a cheap G25 if you really wanted clutch but for F1 not much need for a foot clutch.

The DFGT is the best value/performance wheel out their or the new Carrera from Fanatec would be in your budget.

Ok, so no foot clutch, just flappy paddle gear changers then lol.

What options then?

The official wireless one but the best combo I've seen is MS wheel with G25 pedals unless you got the money for a fanatec of course :)

edit: i'd say come round and test since you're from reading but i don't just let any strangers in my house :D

Criticism of damage model not as good as other codemaster racing titles, career mode falls flat and gets stale and a few other grumbles but gets an overall decent score.

Not so sure the review really understands F1.

this is as visceral a take on the art of threading 600bhp through less than half a tonnes' worth of steel, carbon fibre and rubber as a console's ever seen.

Hmm F1 cars are more likely to weigh less then the average US person, and pull in something like 800bhp and create up to 8g..

IGN review

For those first few laps there'll be more trips to the gravel trap than Kamui Kobayashi manages in the course of a season

Is this a critism or compliment?

He's been absolutely amazing this year, as he was in the final two races last season, and if this is a critism of Kamui, the reviewer clearly isn't in to F1 that much.

Stereotypical Japanese driver, always off the road, is there a Japanese driver in the game, yes? insert name with comment about gravel traps

Wasn't a great review tbh, skimmed over all the features.

Has he really? :p

Ok, the review is a little harsh to pick on him, Petrov might have been a wiser choice, and he's had a dog of a car yet still managed a few top 10 finishes, but I would hardly say "amazing". He's got guts, but way too erratic.

Anyway, no driver chat in here derailing the thread :D

Reliability problems in the first few races, and i don't recall him going off the road at all this year.

When he's had the car underneath him, he's been fast and consistent, stand out rookie (if you don't count his Toyota races) of the year.

He's my new favorite, so i'm a bit defensive :)

But in general the review wasn't in depth at all, that was my main gripe with the article, it's a huge release and they gloss over everything.
