Codemasters: this gen of consoles is not powerful enough

TBH framerate doesn't bother me as long as its constant. This sounds like an excuse to me from codemasters.

Epic stated that whilst at some points they were stressing the 360 to the max, they also noted that there was plenty more juice they could get out of the console.

Throughout the PS2 and Xbox lifetime the developers continuously improved upon the previous generations of games. IIRC it was about 3 years after the PS2 launched when the games suddenly took a massive jump in appearance. I would imagine the same will occur on the 360 and the PS3.

TBH if the graphics never got better than GOW but the gameplay, physics, ai continued to improve then I would be more than happy.

One of Bungies aims with Halo 3 is that people will be saying "Gears of what...".

Motorstorm runs at 720p 30fps and does suffer from slowdown when there is smoke on the screen, I can fully understand Codemasters saying 1080p 60fps is difficult if they want to make it look better than Motorstorm.

They only need to worry about 720p. Admittedly this is 400% more pixels than 640x480 from the last gen, but isn't the Xbox 360 at least 400% more powerful than the Xbox?

Codemasters are just being lazy they prefer to make pc games than they do console games.

Exactly what I was going to say, they are basically blaming the console because of their lack of skills, time, or whatever.

I agree that they are just being lazy or whatever. The 3 cores the 360 has must be at least as powerful as the average gaming PC CPU, and the GPU is equivalent to something like an nvidia 7900 right? PCs have been running games in 'HD' resolutions for ages so what makes the 360 so different? I think maybe the console programmers are just so used to only have such a small resolution they are finding it difficult to adjust to higher resolutions. This has been an issue for PC games for years.

A CPU has to do the same amount of work at 640*480 as it has to do at 1920*1080, it is the GPU that has to do more work at a higher resolution.

So no matter how advanced the Xbox and PS3's CPU's are, if the GPU can't run 1920*1080 at 60fps it doesn't matter how powerful the CPU is.

Not entirely true. CPU speed does have some effect. But the point is that a 360/PS3 is roughly equivalent in performance to a decent PC. A decent PC can run games at 1280x720 at a good framerate so why shouldn't those consoles :)

(I'm not sure why you keep referring to 1080p but the standard for the 360 is only 720p, or 1280x720. Some games may run higher, but they do not have to.)

tried Rainbow Vegas on the PC have you? :)

Who knows what PC is needed to run Dirt at 60fps in high resolution, maybe it will also require a monster PC with a 8800GTX and C2D processor?

If that is the case I can understand why they would run it at 30fps on the consoles, maybe a lack of RAM is the problem?

EDIT- Doesnt look that good, Think im gonna wait for WRC on the PS3 if theres gonna be one!

Bit juddery after seeing Forza 2, but I still think it looks great.

Yeah, looks ok but framerate is awful on the second vid, watching 3rd now!

Is there gonna be a WRC 2008 for PS3?

The CMR and Toca games run better on the Xbox than they do on my PC, which on paper is much faster than an Xbox. You can always extract a lot better performance out of a fixed hardware platform. That is why it puzzles me that they can only manage 30fps this generation. Either they've suddenly become lazy or unskilled, or the hardware is lacking in some way.

I'd be supprised if it was RAM. well on the 360 anyway. There is no bloated O/S to run in the background or any of that malarkey
