Coffee Adiction

Got into Nespresso coffee from my gf recently, I normally drink 1-2 cups a day, but I use ridiculous amounts in a single cup (think heaped tablespoons of instant), or brew my own with ground coffee.

Buying takeout coffee is expensive so only tend to have it as a treat / when I'm out on the weekend, I'm not fussy, cafes, costa, nero, tesco, wherever will do.

As far as addiction goes, I definitely feel lethargic without at least one strong coffee in me of a morning, and I'll crave it so I tend to make sure I have access. I never used to have a "dependency", but I do abuse it nowadays and like that buzz a strong brew gives me.

Coffee is life, I think it's OK to enjoy as a habit but I sometimes wonder if I do drink too much and how I'd feel without it.

Is there much truth behind the "coffee drinkers live longer" comment you hear now and again, think I remember scanning over a pubmed paper on it but can't remember how well the study was carried out.

I used to drink about 6 cups a day (2 for breakfast, 2 through the day, 2 in the evening), and when I had to stop because of unrelated health issues I experienced terrible headaches for the first week. I never felt like I couldn't do without caffeine, but obviously my body knew something that my mind didn't. The headaches initially made me think that I was dehyrated, but no matter how much water I drank they didn't recede.

Seems funny how something so innocuous can have such varying effects amongst the population.

2-3 cups a day generally, one at 9am, one at 3pm, and maybe one at 11am if I feel like it. Don't drink any tea though and otherwise drink 3-4L of water.

I have 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day over weekends but very rarely have any at all during the week. I only drink it because I like the taste - I tend to prefer flavoured coffees like a mocha or vanilla latte and I don't find caffeine really has any effect on me. I can even have a coffee an hour to half an hour before bed and still go to sleep just fine. From the sounds of it I'm definitely in the minority on that one.

I do occasionally grab a Starbucks/Costa when I'm out and about but it's only if I'm driving and feel like stopping off for a break somewhere or if I'm out and about with time to kill. Last time I had a Costa was probably around a month ago when I met a friend, so I don't mind paying the inflated prices when it's that infrequent.

I have a Costa 30 second walk from my house. Spend about £20 a weekend in there when my dad drives over and we go with my son, then do the same with my girlfriend as it's just a nice place to relax after a day out or if the weathers crap and want to get out the house. I always feel a mug (no pun intended) paying £2.20 for a black coffee as thats all I drink, I drink coffee for function rather than flavour. I do have a ridiculous amount of points on my Costa card though :p

I drink way too much coffee at work, but don't pay for it as they have fancy coffee machines in every kitchen.

Seeing Costa mentioned a lot, can't remember the last time I had a half-nice coffee there.

Their Lattes/Cappuccinos taste just like warm milk, and their Americanos taste like weak instant coffee.

My super cheap espresso machine seems to make a better cup.

Free bean grinding coffee machine at work = free lattes.

The dream.
We have a fully equipped coffee shop with proper baristas and fantastic tasting beans. Oh and a great view over London as it's on the 10th floor. That's the dream ;):p

EDIT: And didn't I post in this thread already? What happened?

I only have coffee at home, spend about £6-7 on a 250g which gets me roughly 12x coffees. So approx 50p per coffee which I only have at the weekends due to the aforementioned free coffee at work :) People that pay £3 odd for Starbucks or Costalot are mad. At least hunt out your local hipster place where they actually care about the quality and taste.

Of the 4 big chains my order of coffee taste goes:

Cafe Nero > Starbucks > Costa > Pret

We have Costa outlets based in our office building. Some Managers I work with spend upwards of £80 per week on coffee which is mostly buying for other people when they have meetings.

I have never drank the stuff so spend £0 on it :)

Their coffees are absolutely awful I agree. But they are 30 seconds away and I drink black coffee anyway, which is nearly the same wherever I drink it unless I go to little indy coffee shops where it's much nicer. But in the big chains, black coffee tastes identical wherever you go

For a straight-up filter, Pret is pretty good and much cheaper than the others. If I'm out and about and there's no alternative I'd go for that. It's only 99p.
