Coilwhine!! :(

Im getting coilwhine as soon as i open the game up... 60 fps with vsync still whining!

When i disable vsync it obv gets worse, i dont use vsync on every game either. Rome 2 one of my most played games has horrible whine!

I paid 252 in the sale i dont wanna pay 300+ with 1 year less warranty just so i dont get coilwhine! Ive never had coilwhine before something is up with these 970s.

I just want a coilwhine free one.

What is your PSU?

We have absolutely zero impact on Asus, Gigabyte or MSI, they are far to big and know best, we scream at them on a weekly basis. The only big brand card we had influence on was MSI Lightning as it was a focused project which required 8 Packs excellence.

We are doing our best and we are doing far more than any other Etailor.

Show me one other Etailor worldwide who has gone out of there way? Wait there is not one ONLY OcUK, we are the ones pushing and trying to be different.

That is why there is an OcUK reference 970 and a Galax Infinity, we had to seek out manufacturers to do this for us who had a realistic MOQ to make it happen which was still several thousand units even then.

So sorry but we are actively pushing like crazy and are the only ones doing so, no one else is! But as a business we are not about to stop selling every graphics card barr the Powercolor PCS+ and our own OcUK 970 and Galax Infinity, that would be completely dumb and stupid which would result in loosing us millions in turnover!

You can try to justify it in monetary terms and that's fine. It is your decision to take. But that doesn't make it right. I'm more than aware of what the realities are of the situation and that the greatest force applying is not morals but the financial side of things. But from my point of view, there's no denying you're effectively perpetuating the cycle of neglect by looking the other way in the name of a good payday.

I don't expect you to move heaven and earth to change it and I wouldn't have even said anything had you not posted in here showing off a marked up "special" 970 as if it was some form of panacea for what is effectively a problem which you are implicit in creating and maintaining.

That's bad sport in my opinion.

For info my Galax GTX970 exoc black edition has minimal coil whine. the ONLY time I've heard it was when I benched 3dmark 2002 (I think thats the one, real oldie) and when the frames hit over 600-700 I could here a quiet sorta "stuck pig" sound, almost like a warble, but it was very quiet and, like I said, thats the only time I've heard anything like that.

I have the same card and I don't have any coil whine!:)

Of course we have to look the other way, we cannot stop selling 95% of our VGA business because were not 100% happy, but at the same time coilwhine has being present for years, its not actually a fault and all cards can suffer it some worse than others. Here at OcUK those who are suffering it who are also running on decent PSU's we take action and resolve it for the customer without issue. That is what makes us better, we sort it out hassle free. But NO BUSINESS on this planet would not look the other way, it would be suicide to stop selling brands for something that in the grand scheme is actually a small issue.

What we did was go out of our way to find a source to build cards to our specification that do everything possible to try and prevent it in the first place, only we did that and whether you think its a bad sport or not were offering something else for customers to buy that are far less likely to suffer the issue. What we are not doing is holding a gun to anyones head saying you must buy our cards, you can still buy all the other brands here from us.

What is your PSU?

I have a 750w corsair PSU and ive had 3 cards in this PC so i know its not the PSU.

The card is an Evga, I've never had Evga before so maybe this is a poor brand? Im sure they have good rep though as i read a bit about them and people love them!

That is a budget PSU so not the best but not the worse.

Send it us back we will test it and exchange if it's emitting any whine on our rig which I suspect it will if it's as bad as you say. :)

There are so many people reporting Corsair PSUs and graphics cards that whine, you yourself said that your previous card whined and so is this one. I used to have an older Corsair PSU (Not the one I just sold) that whined with both of my 560 and 660 GPUS. Got an 600 HX and it was fine.

I do recommend the super flower though

When did i say my previous card whined? None of my cards have whined ever!

I doubt its the PSU thats just an excuse i mean its an 80 quid PSU. Theres no label saying if you own a corsair PSU youll get whine... fair enough if you have some cheap thing for 30 quid but 80 quid is not cheap for 85 you can get a gold rated superflower!

If the PSU caused whine id have noticed it on my last 2 cards. The 970 is whats causing whine.

How long does it take for them to test and return the card? I havent played on my PC since last week this is killing me!

Because it's £80 does not make it good and most Corsair PSU's are just ok, the one you have is a value one. There are other PSU's on the market which are superior for the same money.

You are aware Corsair don't make them? There is also a reason why 8 Pack don't touch them either, they are ok but far from the best, but at same time far from the worse, hence they are ok. :)

Check with returns but I guess 2-5 days to turn around.

https://vid.me/nRZs (Drops to silence the sec I minimise the game.)

My MSI GTX 760 started emitting this noise when running games. I tried vsync and even capping my framerate. I could only minimise the noise when I took it as low as 30fps, and even then it didn't disappear. My card's in the process of RMA at the moment, but I'm worried to hear that most are seeing this happen with a Corsair power supply. I'm running an AX760 from Corsair, is it still likely to cause the problem?

Iv not read most of the stuff in this thread so this is just a little random story about my coil whine experiences:

I had a tagan 750W with 1x 7950 at stock speeds, it coil whined like HELL, literally was stupid how much it wined, wasn't bothered by it at all though not one bit, to me coil whine just lets me know iv got a hungry beast in my pc :p

I got my self a Corsair RM 1000W psu because I was planning on getting a second 7950 the week after, but anyway I plugged it in, ALL of the coil whine stopped, I couldn't believe it because I had no idea at the time that coil wine could be produced by the power being fed to it :P

Anyway, got a second 7950 the week after getting the RM 1000w, and still no coil whine at all, overclocked as much as I could with stock volts no coil whine, then I overclocked them to a point where I cant get any more performance, iv got my 7950's at stupid volts really but the temperatures are good but now iv volted them up a few notches they whine a tad, but literally, say the video in the opening post is the noise I got with my single 7950 and old tagan psu was the same. the noise I get now from my 7950s voltage clocked etc is about 5% of that, I cant hear it with the side panel on my case infact you cant hear it unless you stick your ear next to the computer with the side panel off. And like I said, getting a new psu cured all the coil whine all together until I decided to run my 7950s at there maximum changing voltages in the 7950s bios etc

When i bought my Corsair HX750 5 years ago that's all you seen people recommending. These days corsair Psu's don't seem to carry the same quality. I have mine running a 290 pcs+ and no sign of whine from either. I think back then corsair PSU's were made by Seasonic or atleast mine was.

They were Seasonic who are a great oem quality wise.

Yeah i no its not the best but like you say its not the worst i will be VERY surprised if it doesnt whine for the rma people. The PSU has powered hungrier cards, this is a low power card why would the PSU struggle with it?

Jesus christ a week turn around! This is really getting on my nerves now :(

I feel your pain but i guess anyone who buys a gtx970 knows they are taking a bigger risk than normal of getting a card with coil whine or at least it seems that way judging by the threads all over the place. In your case i would say it's most likely the card and not the Psu but with PC's you never know. I take it you have no back up card.

As I'm looking to purchase a GTX970 just after Christmas, I have to say there is some worry about whine and reading threads like this just compound that. But I have to say the support Gibbo has offered would not be offered by other etailers out there. So praise where it's due.

I just need the right card to pop up on a This Week Only deal plus sell my 7970.

Yea ocuk do indeed offer a good service. I managed to get the 290pcs+ with 4 games for £200. Sold the games so all in the card cost me £170. I run it at 1100 core and 1400 memory with no added voltage. Idles's at 35oc and loads at 66oc. I am very impressed especially for £170.
