I'd disagree with you there Gilly, the brand image is hugely important to the success of coke. Some people may prefer the taste, but don't disregard that many, many people buy the stuff primarily due to advertising and the brand culture.

he obviously has never studied marketing at uni people buy new phones every year because of marketing and the culture it has created, not because they need them.

you dont see people buying new lawn mowers every year, but they do with mobile phones, its a sad state of affairs when all these sheep dont know why they are buying what they are buying.

Marketing certainly has a influence, but it's undeniable that they taste different and as such you would be crazy to buy the one you like the taste of less. The only time I can see marketing playing an influence here is when people like the taste of both, which may well be a lot of people.

Fentimans is way better than both. Not much in it between Pepsi and Coke for me really, though I think as a range Pepsi is better as Pepsi Max is nicer than diet/zero coke.

EDIT: The main thing that influences me is which is on offer that week.

I think that's the case for the majority of people. They are indifferent to the taste of both, but go with Coke because of the branding.

I bought Pepsi Throwback from an American website. Basically Pepsi made from the original formula that uses cane suger instead of high fructose corn syrup. It was very nice! Had a fresh sweet taste

Pepsi Max > *. Reasons are below.

I don't drink full sugar Coke any more, but when I did, I preferred Coke to Pepsi.

These days, I find the full sugar versions of both (but especially Coke) to be way way too sweet.

Diet Pepsi has more flavour than Diet Coke, but my favourite is Pepsi max. I don't like Coke Zero at all.
