Diet Pepsi has more flavour than Diet Coke, but my favourite is Pepsi max. I don't like Coke Zero at all.

find coke zero has a pepsi like taste and pepsi max doesn't have so much of the pepsi tater but both has mega sweetness like the full sugar articles. For me it's diet coke, smooth with out the pepsi spice and doesnt taste like syrup like either pepsi or coke.

We did a taste test back when I was in school.

There were 3 options:
  • Coke
  • Pepsi
  • Generic own brand

We were blind folded and there must've been about 20 of us.

Pepsi came out top, followed by the own brand and Coke came last.

I personally like both, but Coke in glass bottle is something else.

This quite common, Pepsi comes top in nearly all blind taste tests but brand power of Coke means it's chosen a lot more.

Coke every time. I've been a hardcore Coke drinker for many years, Pepsi is too sweet and has a vegetably taste I can't really describe.

I like vegetables, don't get me wrong - but I don't like them in my cola based drink.

I have however, recently converted from Coke to Coke Zero. Have to admit I was starting to have nagging concerns about the long term damage all that sugar was having on my body. I still have the odd can of Coke every now and then but I've got so used to Zero that it makes regular Coke taste almost painfully sweet.

Coke, Pepsi tastes more like a diet variety to me (almost like saccharin).

However if Barr's Strike Cola was still available that would be my choice - in the glass bottle of course!

Fentimans is way better than both.
Shame it's so bloody expensive though. Do you think it tastes like liquid fizzy cola bottles or is it just me?

Anyway, Coke for me if it's a choice between that and Pepsi. There's something weird about the way that Pepsi tastes.

Marketing certainly has a influence, but it's undeniable that they taste different and as such you would be crazy to buy the one you like the taste of less. The only time I can see marketing playing an influence here is when people like the taste of both, which may well be a lot of people.

You should watch this programme that was on BBC last week:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b010tbnd/Business_Nightmares_with_Evan_Davis_Doomed_Designs/

One of the sections in it was about New Coke and how, when Coca Cola launched a new product that most people preferred in blind taste tests, it absolutely flopped when launched in public.

The problem with taste tests is that people only get one mouthful of each. I prefer the sweeter taste of Pepsi, but it's just too sweet if you're drinking a whole can or bottle of the stuff.

I prefer the taste of Pepsi Lite and Pepsi MAX. If neither is available, I guy diet coke, again, for the taste. Both the normal drinks are too sweet for my taste, but pepsi edges out coke. Guess I'm in the minority :P
Oh and dekez, the word you're looking for is effervescence.

People choose coke due to marketing and image and not because of the taste

Correct

what rubbish, people choose coke because of taste. Pepsi has a horrible spicy taste to it. Coke is smooth.

Actually you are completely wrong. There was a program on BBC last week about the very subject.

The pepsi challenge was slaughtering coke in blind taste tests, cokes own tests proved dispite being the market leader people preferred the taste of pepsi. So they assumed they had a problem they altered the taste of coke to a flavour people preferred.

People went nuts complaining.

The program mentioned that coke forgot that in blind taste testing the brand is not able to make an impact and even though people preferred the taste of pepsi they bought the coke brand.

I drink the diet varieties of either, usually pepsi but only because that's normally in the vending machines or more regulary on a cheaper multipack deal.
