Cold Calling Scum!

It's ridiculous to have people calling you when you haven't asked it for that. Am getting LANGUAGE! at these people for doing this. Am sure they wouldn't appreciate it if i call their house every day.
Lately I have hold myself back a bit and if she's a girl am trying to ask her name, age etc. who knows I could end the phone call with something arranged :D, usually they hung up or verbally abuse me but hey you called me and challenged my conduct on unsolicited calls so now take what I got to give ;)
and by the way don't knock it till you try it.

Well to be fair, it sounds like you were rude to them at first.

Still doesn't excuse their level of abuse but perhaps your slight obnoxiousness pushed them over the edge after a day of being talked to like ****? :)

The people who do that particular job should expect everything they receive. Quite possibly one of the most annoying things about modern life.

I will choose to watch adverts on TV. I will choose to read an advert in a paper or magazine. I will choose to click a banner link on a website.

Nothing gives these scum the right to call me multiple times during the day, and absolutely nothing gives them the right to be abusive.

Scum.

EDIT - Cheekykid, you might want to edit the swearing.

do they really keep saying hello for over a minute ? :p

i usually just hang up anyway
Yes mate, the record was something like 1 and half minutes (about 20 seconds in they start saying hello, because that is how long it takes them to realise I have picked up the phone!) , I was trying not to PMSL! :D

Thankfully after using the TPS I have not had many (touch wood).

Excellent! I'd laugh if someone did that to me. Could have been worse, could have been Glaz-U-Like

lolol glaz-u-like

Brilliant prank call :)

or those calls where no one on the other end even pick's up

No, Glaz-U-Like is a company Tim Shaw (Kerrang Radio DJ) made up to annoy people with double glazing cold calling :p

Phone Ideal Homes and tell them. They'll have a recording of the call I'm sure.

If the person who did it had any brains at all they'd do it from their personal mobile.

I just sit there and listen to cold callers rubbish little script all the way through. Then when they ask a question I say no thanks. Makes them very annoyed :p

Um. Telephone Preference Service ? It is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not want to receive such calls, so why not sign up, and save starting threads whinging about something that you can avoid. :p

I work for a government department, and I often have ot call people during the day.

One time, I asked to speak to Mr *****, and the lady was like "HE'S NOT INTERESTED, STOP CALLING!"

Had to chuckle, I just sent their application back to them with a rather snooty letter :p

Nice, don't want to read it, dont click it. ;) I think the title was self-explainitory, I guess I deserve it, being not registered yet and all?

This isn't a usual cold call, it was abusive and threatening.

I once had someone call claiming I'd won a mobile - so I went with it, replying to everything as if I'd just won the lottery, I was so excited.

'Sir, I'm phoning to tell you you've won a brand new sony erricsson mobile phone'

'OMG Really!!!!'

'yes, its got a 2 mega-pixel..'

'Wow, I've never won anything, you don't realise how happy you've made me!'

'So, err yes a 2 mega-pixel camera, a bla'

'shh, forget about the spec, that doesnt matter, when am I gonna recieve my phone. I'm going to phone all my friends after this and tell them I've won, whats you're name because you, my friend, have just become my bestest buddy'

'We're errr... so its got....'

'so when am I going to recieve it'

'well, it usually takes about 10 days t'

'I'm going to stand at the door RIGHT NOW and wait the 10 days for it to arrive, that is how much I'm looking forward to this. This really has made my day, my week, actually sod it, I love you' <hangs up>

Yeah, the people who are just doing a job deserve abuse off callers instead of just "no thank you, bye".

Only because you're being presented with it in the first place. If ITV and Channel 4 stopped advertising, would you go searching for the missing adverts? No.

I agree, nothing gives them the right to get abusive. So why should they recieve abuse off other people? If they're abusive to you, fine, report them etc, but they're human beings just like you. Sure they have an annoying job, like the taxman, or a speed camera engineer, but that doesn't mean they should be open to abuse.

All of your points are valid, however the OP has not actually given any evidence that he was abusive to the caller. He stated the person being asked for was no longer there, and ended the call. Hardly being abusive to the guy. A little ignorant maybe, but I still stand by the fact that if you are in that line of work, you should accept people aren't going to be all that happy speaking with you.

With regards to your point about adverts being read only because they are there, I'm unsure how that justifies cold calling. Of course I wouldn't actively seek advertising if it wasn't easily viewable, but I don't understand what that has to do with me wanting cold callers phoning me night and day?

Erm, hope that isn't refering to me though, I don't think not saying P's and Q's over the phone to a cold caller makes you deserve the barrage of insults.

I guess it's up to other's if they take my word or not. Few know me on here. Ignorant? I get the call's all the time, people are spoken to far worse on a day to day occasion than, 'No. They don't live here.' I won't get dragged into a debate though as to whether my pretty plain comments were rude.

No, I'm not saying the OP was abusive like him, the OP didn't deserve to be spoken to like that. But I don't think cold callers should be open to abuse just because that's their job.
