Cold today = muchos performance?

I disagree. My Lotus feels noticably quicker to accelerate on cool days. Recently it's felt very sluggish.

Its ok, hes trying to give excuses on why a 2.0 NA managed to get more power than a 1.8 Turbo :p ;)

Agreed, my 306 gti6 is hating this hot air. Throttle respsponse isn't as good and the pull through at the top end is noticeably slower. Bring me back the cold dense air :D:D

My motorbike is also effected by the hot air and that has a ram air system on it! Unfortunately ram air systems dont cool the air :(

Would I be correct in thinking fuel consumption could go up slightly in hot weather? The idea being that less air is entering the combustion processs, so fuelling is increased slightly whereas when its colder the air is denser so there is a higher volume of air and slightly less fuel is needed?

I seem to have gotten about 25 miles less from a tank of petrol.

My car definitely seems a bit more sluggish.

I've noticed the diff these past few hot days in my car, seems to pickup slower just seems to lack power, hot weather + really poor mazda air pickup pipe = loose!

You know what you need to do to fix that then don't you ;)

You just need to keep the speed up to keep the air flow flowing! :p That's the one advantage of the mx5 it does have a huge gap for the air to come in - it's just a shame it's routed badly - however mine now gets a shed load of air to the intake ;)

Driving to the airport on monday at 5am was glorious - it certainly did make a significant difference.

I cant remember the exact physics but IIRC is it not for every 1 degree drop on the intake charge you gain 1bhp or something?

I remember my old MK4 throttle bodied Astra had an Alcohol mist spray in the intake to drop the temp......never really worked......

Fuel consumption (on Diesels anway) is far better in hot weather....i'm now seeing 60.1mpg average on my car over the last week!!!!! and thats a 2.0 MG ZT CDTi

I knows :) , The standard intake looks like its sucking air through a straw, it really does suck (Badly).

Now if you excuse me i must be off, got a bank to rob :p

Yep, definately makes a huge differenece, my car felt very flat on saturday, intake temps were silly :(

On a cold morning it's like a different car, it's just ballistic.

Seriously considering going for water injection.

Have a look at methanol injection in a 50:50 mix with water ;) It's cooling effect, knock suppression and power gains is significantly better although there is a slightly higher cost to it (unless you have running meth from your tap!)
