Me and the wife are going to see Coldplay at Hampden on 16th Sept. I'm rather new to all this (concerts), having been to TITP twice as a teenager (12 years ago was the last time I was there).

We have standing tickets, but other than that I know nothing about concerts! Tickets say 3pm start, but I guess that is far too early to arrive? Do they sell food / beer? I kinda wish I'd ordered seating tickets, not sure how much I'll like standing. Any experiences welcome!

The doors will open at 3, just means if you want to be at the front you go in with the mad rush and then literally stand and wait at the front til the bands start (normally about 7ish)

I went to see Coldplay a few year back, my main aim was to be at the front so I stuck it out as soon as the doors open, It was Bolton and it rained non stop til about 9/10, it was harsh but sort of good at the same time.

There are burger stalls and drink stalls, sometimes a bit expensive but pretty standard for these events.

It will be a good night

I'm not bothered about being at the front! I think we'll aim to be in about 5 or 6... not sure what time the support acts start though (Jay-Z and Girls Aloud apparently). Bloomin Hampden is no smoking as well which is annoying (got thrown out once from the football there for having a fag in the disabled loo with about another 20 people!!)

Oh good god, Jay-Z and Girls Aloud?!? How is that even remotely appropriate? When I saw them they had Idlewild supporting, now that was fantastic.

My girlfriend is seeing them soon and Jay-Z is supporting - I thought it was a bit odd myself too but she told me that Jay-Z had a hand in the last album or something, so made a little more sense then.

Rich

I got soaked seeing them in crystal palace about 5 years back when x and y came out. It should be a good night, nothing better to warm you up for a main band than a bit of love machine!

I have nothing to add as I'm a concert noob (only been to a Robbie Williams concert the wife forced me to go to in Milton Keynes) but I love Coldplay and I am extremely jealous! enjoy matey :)

Whatever you do - DO NOT take food/drink with you! When I went to see AC/DC they made us dump everything at the gate :(

Make sure you have a warm top for after if your driving as the make shift car park is about a kajillion miles away (up and down a big hill)

Make sure you go to the right section as well - got a taxi to drop me and a friend at the east stand only to find it was the wrong end of the east stand :(

beers were about 4 quid, waters/crisps/chocolate was about 2 quid and there were burger vans outside.

Best bet is to get something to eat before you go in (ASDA across the road ;)) and then just wait till you get out :)

Haha, I was at the very same concert :D

We had Interpol and another couple of bands supporting, far more appropriate than Girls Aloud

Saw coldplay inside couple of years ago by far the best most energtic concert i've seen in ages they have such stage presence. I think you'll like.

I didn't get tickets this time round still thinking of buying a few from the touts anyway.

How long are they gigging this album for?

Aren't they supposed to be doing a U2 esque break?

Coldplay do get a lot of serious stick, not sure why because their last album was class, 3 out of 4 albums that are really good is good enough for me to still be a fan.

I hate people that hate music if its popular, NME is full of them types..

They don't need the NME reading topshop shopping indie dance new rave post hardcore brap brap wannabes.

Ha rant over

All of my friends judge me because I love Coldplay. I judge them for not liking Coldplay.

Horses for courses.

I assume you mean X&Y as the not really good one? I agree with you though, other than the 'hating things that are popular is cool' thing I can't see why Coldplay get so much hate.

was at the gig tonight. Have to be honest didn't really go for Coldplay. Wanted to see Jay-Z and Coldplay was an after thought. I like some of their songs but didn't see them as a stadium band. Thought their songs were a bit chilled/mellow for that kind of venue.

After the gig though I have to say my mind has been changed. Some fantastic sing alongs, crowd was well up for it and they put on a fantastic show. Lights, paper butterfly sprays into the crowd, loads of yellow bloons blown into the crowd etc. The band even moved to a small stage near the back of the venue so people up there could get a good view for a few songs.

My opinion of them totally changed tbh.

They do that a lot.

One of the best gigs I've ever been to was Coldplay last year at Birmingham. They went off, came to the little stage at the back and went off again after saying thank yous and goodbyes etc. The crowd then started la-ing Viva La Vida and they came back on - to check if we were in tune :D (which we were). And did another song. Was epic.

I think the reason they get a lot of stick is down to Chris Martin being a bit of an oddball, or he seems to come across that way.For the record I like a lot of their stuff, with A Rush of blood to the head being my fav album.
