This is mentioned in the Brits thread but some people may miss it an dI feel it deserves it's own thread.
:( :(

Coldplay's announcement at last night's Brit Awards that they will be taking a break has signalled to many the end of the band completely.

Singer Chris Martin announced as the band were accepting their second award of the night for Best Album that: "This means so much to us, especially now. It's going to be a few years before you see us again."

He added: "People are fed up with us - and so are we."

Friends and sources are now claiming that Martin is putting the band on hold to spend more time with his wife Gwyneth Paltrow and their baby Apple. The couple are expecting another child in April.

The 28-year-old singer apparently later told Brits host Chris Evans: "You had a break, so are we."

Coldplay landed a record deal in 1999, and have recorded three award-winning LPs: Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and 2005's X & Y.

Someone once posted in here the most genius post ever
when discussing Chris Martin

it went something like..........

"Gwyneth, Apple, Yellow, Writing on yer hand, Fair Trade, World Peace **** off"

Sums it all up for me

I heard Chris Martin in an interview (on Radio 1) hours before the Brits saying the new Album would be a lot better than the last one, and he would know because its all written.

I'd hope it is just a break for a bit rather than a split. Can see his point though, he has got other priorities in life now after all.
On a personal note though, it'd be typical if they split up now that I could just about afford to go to one of their concerts :p

I only started listening to them about a month ago. Found out they were going otu for a while earlier today, but i hope they dont split.

Sad to hear, but Im hoping they will be back...

The new album maybe written, so this would give them time to do thier own thing for the next few years. The new material already written so they dont have to do much. Anyways, they will be back!

Long Live Colplay.

I was quite gutted to hear about this, but tbh I think it is time they took a break. I just hope they do return.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou.
Lets hope RHCP and REM can follow them.
Should mean less suicides too.

You think they are bad, have you ever listened to radiohead, now THAT is depressing. REM have made some depressing stuff, but a lot of it is very good. The RHCPs are alright, but i wouldnt miss them.

Sorry, how could I have missed Radiohead?
Boring boring boring.
According to statistics their songs are played at 99% of the suicides in this country.

(I may have made that up)
