hi guys...

bought DiRT yesterday and today i clambered up the loft to get my logitech momo racing force wheel... set it all up and ready to go... gave it about an hour and half of my time and decided thats all its gonna get...

what a letdown! anyone else feel the same? i thought the steering response was aweful, the fact that 4x4s would get stopped dead and heavily damaged by stones on the side of the road that my nan could pick up, and a general sloppy feel to the driving all made the momo go straight back up the loft, which is where it'll stay until this new race07 game comes out or when they fix the ghostcar in live for speed :) (fave all-time racing game but stopped playing when the ghost broke :()

what dya think?

Either I've gone rubbish at driving games, or something wrong here also. Couldn't control the car at all (have a Thrustmaster steering wheel)

i actually think i could control the novelty desert vehicles in Jak 3 on the PS2 better :p

I'm gonna stick to sims, arcade style's rarely do it for me anyway (but i did love gran turismo 4 and toca 3 wasn't half bad) - live for speed really is the daddy, if only they could get funding and licencing to merge all that fantastic physics with some top end graphics and car models - there simply would be nothing that could compete :) (oh and like i said they would also have to fix the ghost mod :p)

It kind of grew on me as I progressed, some of the tracks are fun (as in most CMR games, Spain is good) and some cars are nice to drive such as the C4.

I did break out my wheel for the first time in about 5 years as well, but went pack to my pad in the end. I found that the slow response from a wheel (i.e. the delay when swinging the wheel from one side to the other) just didn't cut it on some of the rally tracks where you've got boulders and trees right by the side of the track and need to instantly change your direction of turn.

Using the wheel for the rallycross type stages with big open turns wasn't too bad but I definitely found the tighter tracks easier with a pad.

I quite liked it tbh, though I'm not a huge racing game nut. Played with the 360 pad on default control settings. I have heard that a lot of wheel users find i better after tweaking the controls and from what I remember there are fair amount of options.
Had it pipped out to the TV at something like 848x480 max settings on my old X1950XT and it looked and played decently.

ive tried it with momo wheel as well , it dosent feel right at all
you turn a corner and it dosent want to respond how you turn back the other way , just a few seconds later it decides to turn and not instant ,

i bought it when it was released and havent enjoyed it either. The graphics were ok alltho my pc wouldnt run max setting and only managed 30 ish on what i have it set as.

I Wasnt to bothered about this, it was the same as the OP regarding the handling. I spend some wime on the wheel setting thinking it was that, but after playing the PS3 demo i concluded it was made for a console. Its easier with the joypad and for me ruined the pc game when using a wheel. pity.

ps, might buy it on the PS3 when i can get a deal on the price.

I love it - plays really well and looks stunning -my only issue is that it doesn't play nice with Vista. It sounds like the OP is more used to arcade style of play - this is more realistic and to be fair you'd be surprised at the amount of damage a small rock can do to a car.

I play gtr2 and the original versions as i like the simulation factor. i have never driven a rally type car before but i wouldnt say its realistic. Its fun, but too fustrating for me.

I'd have to agree on the Vista comment. Runs about 40% slower in Vista than XP for me. Makes it unplayable in Vista on some tracks (mainly where other cars are present).

Hmm I was on Vista and I did not like it (nothing to do with 35FPS @1920x1440) as playable.

Just dont like many racing games and thought it did not looks that good, Im going to give REVO a real chance though as D1RT is now unistalled.

Got to disagree on the looks. I think it looks and sounds stunning even if the handling is a little off.

I love the game, it plays fine using my r440 and also xbox controller. Its a little arcady, but I think the handling is just about right, as is the difficulty of the tracks. I have been a fan since the first incarnation. Rest in Peace Colin.

I wonder if Sega Rally will live up to the old Saturn version, me and my friend used to play that for hours.
