Colin McRae DiRT - not so good...

i gave up on dirt aswell.got a r440 saitek wheel to play it on and i could not keep it on the road at all.messed with the settings for ages but i gave up in the end.just got rfactor and i am enjoying that loads better.ok its not the best graphics of a driving game out there but at least u can have a good race and finish it.

totally, its an arcade racer with great gfx and for a tenner i'd say defo
i use an ancient Microsoft FF Wheel/Pedal on it and its great fun and very responsive ,,
although you have to get used to the instant braking which you'll either like or hate

I really like it, I play it on the 360, the thing that does annoy me though, is the lack of good online/multiplayer modes, but the most fun I have had on a driving game ever. Seen someone play it on the PC, it didnt look nearly as fun tbh, maybe its just one of those games that should be played on a console, preference though I guess.

have to say i too am a fan

doesnt run amazingly on my rig, but mid settings still look damn pretty

i think another gig of ram should sort things out

I love DIRT! Graphics and sound are awesome, good selection of cars / tracks and handling i can more than cope with

. Feels a bit more old skool CM than the last game to me.

I think they should make another Colin Mcrae game called "Colin Mcrae - Racing Legend"... they should make the graphics amazing... spend ages optimizing and make the best career in a rally game ever

i have to agree with that i think. a Mcrae "legend" game would be fantastic and a tribute to a great man.

If you could follow his career right from privateer years would be great in both game and the fact that it would show how much of a difference he made to the sport.....

Used HDR tweaker for Dirt, you can disable HDR- which looks OTT really. There's so much glare from sand you woud think it's a mirror. Got around 4fps extra, also disable AA got a few more. Can run at Ultra at 1920x1080 and quite playable

Does anyone else have a problem using the xbox360 controller with this in that they keep hitting the change view button when braking. Probably my fat fingers but its v annoying - the number of times I've lost a race because I've hit change view, ended up in the cockpit view where I can't see anything and gone straight into a tree!

If I try to reconfigure the pad in the main menu then it stops working in the menus, which is also pretty annoying!

The steering is very poor, yes and the game is just a major hardware hogger.

Got this at release too. The first couple of weeks it was rendered unusable by the copy protection.

Then there was the handling which, while not great, I was willing to give time to learn.

But the last thing that stopped me playing this game is that every time I play, about 10 minutes in, my sound starts cutting out. Have no sound problems with any other game.

And the lack of support means this will probably never be sroted. Should have sold it months ago. Now will probably never get any money back off it.

How to fix the DiRT steering lag (nvidia cards):

Use rivatuner to change the "max frames rendered ahead" from 3 to 0. (If 0 causes the game to crash on startup, then set it to 1)

When I first played DiRT, it was impossible to drive properly with my G25 wheel. The delayed response meant I would oversteer, then overcompensate, so I'd be swerving left and right just to go straight ahead. Once I changed the prerender limit to 1, it was like a different game!

it needs to be a different game as the current game is crap....its a real let down compared to the rest of the toca series which has been great so far.
