College/University Thread

Well I finished my engineering foundation year around mid May and I had my results on Friday.

Overall I got:
90% for mechanical science
86.6% for electrical science
83% for information and communication blah blah (pointless rubbish)
79% for maths for engineering

Funnily enough in maths I did better in my calculus exam than in my prior 'easier' one :p

On to the degree proper in September now.

Some VERY good marks there - well done :-)

Finished my mental health rotation
Started on infectious diseases

I'm at the GUM clinic on Friday if anyone in Newcastle has any interesting STIs they want to show me

Just finished my foundation year too!! What engineering course you going in to/what university? :)

Will be going onto Mechanical Engineering Beng. You?

It's at Birmingham City...not exactly world renound but that's what naff A-levels gets you. Still, I'm a bit older now and determined to try and do as well as I can here unlike in my A-levels where I didn't really have a direction or motivation, hence the less than brilliant results there.

I'm going mechanical too :) Just finished my foundation at Brighton but the Uni isn't for me, I want a campus uni not a city one. Hopefully if all goes well I'll be moving to Nottingham in September. Yeah I flopped my A-levels as I had no idea what to do until January in my final year so by then I'd already pretty much screwed up. Foundation years been good so far though.

Still plowing on through the PhD for me. Somewhere around half way through now, so a little under two years left if things go well.

Just sorting out payment for next year, the final year of my degree. Well, I'm not really. My employer is.

Just waiting on some exam results, then I can switch off for a couple of months and get on with my day job.

I'm debating a Phd once I graduate (or a taught Masters).

What and where are you doing it (and what degree did you do before)? Full or part time? What are you doing re funding?

Just realised this is my first year out of education since I was 4!

I'm 27 and I'm still not out of education :(
Before you come to conclusions of failing my GCSE's for the past 11 years I now teach! Looking forward to those holidays! :D

You're meant to say, 'not looking forward to having to pay lots to go away on holiday for six weeks soon :(' :D.

Ain't that the truth! I have done a fair bit of travelling and been ripped off enough times to know when to book and when to go! This summer will be a quiet one in the dales/lake district somewhere! ;)

It's in chemistry (energy materials more specifically) at Surrey. I did my MChem here as well before it. It's fill time and I'm given a full scholarship/stipend payment from my supervisor.

They're well worth doing if you have a genuine interest in the subject and want to go into research later on. But don't take one on lightly!

Yeah - I'm looking at either an MRes in Child Computer Interaction or an MRes in Interaction Design at UCLAN part time.

Looks like I'll have a guaranteed lecturing post at the Uni I'm currently studying at (If i get the first I'm predicted to) so we'll have to see if they'll stump up some funding for the Mres.

Following on from the 2014 thread I thought I would start (late) the 2015 thread.

Last week I took my GCSE English Exams. I walked away feeling I done good, but who knows. But I do believe I got the grade I want, just have to wait till August for the result :)

Today I had my summer school for the course I will be doing in September. It's an access to university health and social care. I am looking forward to it, and hope I do alright. Its a bit daunting with academic writing and referencing everything. But once I start my course they will obviously go through it.

How is everyone else getting on, what courses you all starting this year?

Hi I will be starting college in September doing a level 2 course in Animal care, its something I have always wanted to do and now at 29 I am finally deciding to do it. What is the Summer School you had to attend and what did you do there?

This sounds like my life! lol Except I had to retake maths as well which I am convinced I messed up. Need a grade B for my uni course (already got grade C's)

Same feeling as per everything really. 'Think' I did ok in English.... Although I hate being confident with things like this because I'm convinced I messed them up.

What course you going for?

I'm going for Physiotherapy and assuming I get the grades for uni I've been conditionally accepted for the access course. My work has offered me redundancy which I'm taking and things are pointing toward me doing this which is kinda freaking me out as I'm just taking the decision at each stage....
It would be good to be a physiotherapist.

When they asked me at the access interview "what experience do you have in physiotherapy?" my reply was "I spent 7 month in hospital being taught to stand up, balance, walk, cycle, everything. I know what it means to people." to which they replied "that wasn't quite what we meant but I guess that's applicable". lol :D

Just got 1st year results confirmed today - year average is 97.6% over 6 modules - not to shabby :)

Shame it only counts for 10% towards the final degree classification :(

Oh well, looking forward to Spetember - gonna smash it!

Its basically just letting me know what the an access course involves and how it gets you ready for university etc.

I want to do adult nursing, I need a grade c in English and maths plus a good score in my access course depending on which university I pick it does vary.

Oh right ok, I have a welcome day to attend next Friday and my induction is in August. Currently waiting on the financial forms to be sent which i'm dreading as filling in forms isn't my strong point. Good luck with your course and your exam results :)
