Yep there is a fused spur that it runs to which has a switch which I could turn off. Maybe ill give it a try this weekend, we're away from tomorrow morning till Sunday afternoon.
Well my naming may be off but there is a socket on the wall next to it which has a thick wire going into it and it has a switch which I can turn on or off. Not sure what it's correct name is.
It may also not be an immersion heater.

Yeh it does have its own circuit in the fuse box. Should I just try whipping that off then this morning when I leave?
You can just switch off the local switch. When you get back, have a closer look at it. If it were me there would be 2 areas of focus:
Get it linked to some sort of timer function so that you're not heating water unnecessarily.
Double check the thermostat setting to make sure you're not heating the water too hot, which is a total waste.
Ours did.An immersion heater doesn't run off a fused spur.
Ours did.
I've got the same thing with my boiler, do I spend lots of money to save a small amount of gas. Doesn't seem worth it to me.I bought A+ appliances.. LED TVs, monitors. LED lights and where I can lamps with 2w bulbs. We try not to put the washing machine on for long cycles unless we need to..I build a shed and put 4 solar panels on top a while back, costing £1000, second hand panels and new mini 4 inverters.. currently spend £30 a month on electric but want to get it down further once it goes up 50%..
I haven't got smart plugs and I haven't got a new efficient boiler..
I do have a log burner I can never be bothered to use, that'll have to change.
It's probably only worth doing if your current boiler is very old, I might buy one to get better hot water flow as the wife moans about it.I've got the same thing with my boiler, do I spend lots of money to save a small amount of gas. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
Mines 25 years old, and normal needs a new fan every few years for £3-400, which makes it a tricky decision. It's probably only worth doing if your current boiler is very old, I might buy one to get better hot water flow as the wife moans about it.
Why not worth it? Are you moving house in the less than 4-5years? What would make it worth it? I'm wanting and looking into batteries as an investment and my thinking is even if its 3/4/5 years until they've recovered their initial cost, its pure savings from then on and is so worth it.
