Come up with a business idea that requires little skills?

Just wondered how easy or difficult it was to come up with a business idea and make some money. It doesn't need to be unique, nor does it need to require a great deal of skill. As long as it makes money.

So many more people are turning to self employment these days due to a lack of jobs on the market. My dad insists on being self employed as he has been all his adult life (30+ years)

He is now looking to start something else.

I'm thinking, odd jobs, gardener, removals, deliveries etc.

Anyone think of a lucrative business idea that he could start up. I would do all the web design, marketing for him for free.

He's a grafter, and wants to work very hard. He's not shy of hard work and doesn't mind getting his hands dirty (unlike me).

Suggestions welcome.
 
yeh ok, i'll think of a good business idea and tell it to some random on the internet!

e-commerce is the best way to go imo though

one of the best ideas i saw was on dragons den the other day. 2 former tv editors started up a business doing wedding filming but they didn't film the wedding, the people at the wedding did, they just supplied them with high quality cameras and edited the footage into a dvd for them with a turnaround of 6-8 weeks, a charge of about £900 and a return of about 50%. great idea. cannot believe no one else is doing it. with about 250,000 weddings a year, someone else can be doing it ;)

I wasn't asking for someone to come up with a genious business idea or a new invention and hand over the patent lol. Only asking what was a good tried and tested way of making £250-£300 per week with hard work.

Delivered, removals etc. What is and isn't working in this current climate... what are the businesses that are dying out and what ones are picking up.

As I said... one with no skills would be great. My dad doesn't have fancy camera equipment and I don't fancy lending him mine or bothering to edit weddings footage. Not my thing.

Cheers for the response anyway. I don't really like that idea. Seems a bit of a hassle filming your own wedding. Who would have the time, it would be all shaky and unprofessional looking you would think. Suppose editing would help some what.

Anyway... back on topic.
 
Prostitution.
Can be low or highly skilled, same with the wages.
IIRC it isn't illegal, but soliciting is.
Video it, therefore making a porno movie, and that makes it all above board.
 
I strongly believe that going after peoples laziness is the way to go, for instance I paid some guy 30 smackeroonis yesterday to cut and strim my front garden ( actual garden not my " FRONT GARDEN", its probably 5 foot by 15 foot with a path in the middle and took him 10 minutes.
If he is willing to do the jobs that people can't be bothered to do or are to busy he will make a good living in my opinion.

I would have done this but can't be bothered with it :)
 
does he have any money to invest?
does he have any contacts?
he surely has some skills - driving efficiently is a skill for example. he could go down the 'man with a van' route. tell him to look at the courier network website if he is a little interested.
finding a niche is an art form spurred on by luck, people won't share it.

I completely agree. Was thinking of advertising him as a "handy man" type guy. He's good at DIY... Excellent painter, fitting lights, switches, sockets, wallpapering, shelves, fitting washing machines etc... He's also a decent fencer and gardener.

I definitely think there could be some profit in it for him. What do you guys think?

Handy man for hire website... make it nice and flashy, get a good google ranking and see how it goes? Or forget it and think of something else?

market research should be his first port of call.
there is a website called 'my builder' for this type of thing but it isn't and never will be as strong as word of mouth. is he prepared to quote with a small success rate? props to him for wanting to do this but it's not going to come to him, he has to be putting himself out there. he could start by advertising his services in the local paper and see what kind of response he gets. get some business cards knocked up (insanely cheap) and hand them out to friends and prospective customers.

If you're going for handyman then advertise on Gumtree as its free and designates adverts to your local area.

OP are you saying your dad has been self employed for 30+ years or that he has been employed for that amount of time and now insists on being self employed hereon?

I think the problem here is finding enough people that lazy to make a living out of it.

Who is going to to pay someone £30 for a a simple job like that, when you can get a strimmer for less than £30 pounds and do it year after year yourself :confused:

He was self employed for 30+ years... however he lost his job due to complicated circumstances recently. Looking for something else now.

To be fair. I didn't say a "great" business idea... just one that works, not a unqiue amazing plan... just a plan.

"the man with a van business seems to be doing well in this economy with such and such golng... that's a good bet."

That's hardly giving away anything. Looking for a job that people know of but aren't willing to do.
