Commodore 64 ultimate

I love mine, not even tinkered (got it before xmas, so was great to be a kind again and have it under the tree!)...just love playing the old games and even overclocking for those that struggled in the day is great!

A bit late to this post. I've had one for a few months, firstly they're a great product but Commodore is one of the worst companies to deal with, especially if you have to return it. It takes about a month+ to get a replacement if you're lucky.

  • JiffyDOS I, personally, wouldn't bother with it. Action Replay 6 with Fastload is miles quicker (though there are some compatibility issues for both) but at least you keep the tape drive which is nice for the loading screens and music
  • Spiffy Patch is really useful, adds shortcuts to the C64U menu screen (i.e. Commodore + O for shutdown, Commodore + Z for hard reset) and gives you access to Assembly64 so you can easily load games

What is everyone doing for joysticks, or in particular the jump button. I have a modded controller and a konix speed king for non jump games.

I've got a few joysticks from the C64/Amiga days so I'm just using a zip-stick at the moment. Single button but works well.

I'd really like USB controller support for multi-button fun but can't see that happening.

I love my Ultimate, I use an old TheArcade by Suzo joystick with it. I have an modern ArcadeR which supports separate fire buttons but it's a bit long-throw for me.

You can get gamepads with secondary fire that's essentially dpad up.

USB controller support is problematic, as each controller will enumerate the controls differently. You really need some form of device ID recognition or button remapping to be usable, and that's a lot of work.

As it is even the USB mouse support isn't perfect. The most period accurate form factor modern mouse - Retrogames 'TheMouse' as supplied with the TheA500, doesn't work for instance.
