Commodore Amiga: a visual Compendium

Whilst I think this is a nice book and looks very lush :)

But wouldn't it be better to shell the money out on the ACTUAL Amiga itself?
You can pick one up for a pony or score.

That way you can enjoy your memories of the Amiga 500 for real :)

I wonder how that Armiga is getting on...

Seriously, you miss the 30 odd minutes of load time for a game from a tape deck? as I sure as heck don't......heheh

I used to love the games though, Dizzy, Airborne ranger being my favorites...

I actually think the wait added to it. It somewhat increased your investment in the game, which helped to focus the mind and force you to try and get into it.

These days, it's not uncommon for me to start playing something, and then jack it in within a couple of minutes and play something else. That may be progress, but it makes the games matter less, and I don't enjoy myself so much.

I feel much the same about quicksaves vs checkpoints (of course, there were generally no saves in the old days, beyond occasional level codes - now that was hardcore.)

PS.
I'm very strongly tempted to get the C64 book. Maybe Mrs Cheesyboy can give it to me for xmas.....

I had a C64 for 13 years through to early 90's and sort of missed out on the Amiga because my family was too poor at the time.

C64 was just simply amazing, i remember the latter days spending hours playing Turrican and Last Ninja games

But things became very special when i had my first real PC in the late 90's, playing Doom, X-wing, Tie Fighter, TFX etc There was something special being an elite group of people having the know how to get these games playing on a PC, it was like second nature to us but we were a rare breed.

I also miss the drive noises old PC's made when loading a games and old CRT's

I know i can find an old PC and relive, but it would seem wrong because we have the more modern tech now

Same. C64 was my main gaming machine until about '93 when I got a SNES. Could never get an Amiga, as they were too expensive :(

Didn't get a home PC until around '99 (when I was 17), when we got an old 386, at which point my main gaming was a PS1.

It's crap, being poor. I'm convinced my career would have taken me toward programming or something with computers (instead of boring accountancy) if only I'd actually had a computer throughout my secondary years.

I remember some of the C64 had games to play while the main game was loading....Zaxxon from Ocean had a space invaders game during the loading time, if I remember correctly.

IIRC it was the Mastertronic games which had the space invaders clone.

I believe Mastertronic still exist. Don't know what they do now though...

E:
In fact, the name was bought a few years ago. So not really the same entity;

Seem to remember bumping in to someone on an online management game I used to play who works for the current company.

Loading times you say? ( Try less than a minute, or sometimes instant :D )

Arrived today - a fantastic book. Had us chatting at work quite a lot about the good old days :p

kickstarter for a book? hrmm. if i get nostalgic for the amiga i can read the old amiga magazine reviews which are still preserved on the internet....for free.

But hey kudos to the author if he got *new* images and interviews from that impressive cast list.

For me this is milking the nostalgia train but i can understand the appeal. Only my opinion dont bite my head off ta.

I'm not sure you actually read what this was about and what was included :)

Its a book about the Amiga and some legendary developers of the games on it, inc artwork/interviews etc. A retrospective.

Not worth £25 for me but i'm not that nostalgic. If i thought there would be art and images i had not seen before or interviews about the amiga and its great games which i have NOT read before then yeah maybe i would think about getting it... As a all-in-one historical piece then yeah i can understand fans getting it....feel its nostalgia being exploited a bit but thats just me. :)
