Community Fibre

Does that CGNAT thing effect someone like myself who occasionally plays a little MS flight simulator with all the online functionality like live weather, live multiplayer?

I don't play COD or Battlefield as much as I used to, but that could change.

What would be the issue if I did these things and had CGNAT.
Will affect if its p2p mp

Next April will be my renewal date. Hope they can still keep the price around £25-30. So far, apart from a few late night maintenance blips it's been pretty damn stable. I'd really like to continue and don't see me ever going back to VM or BT.

I wonder if these guys negotiate like VM do?

I mean one could always leave and sign up with your partners details.

Newer/modern games are a bit more intelligently designed for NAT traversal. So CGNAT is becoming less of a problem now, particularly with the Steam Datagram Relay.

Give it another 10 years and we might actually have IPv6 support for all new games and majority of gamers households :D

I've read somewhere that the price will only increase by around £3 a month out of contract. I hope they don't negotiate like VM but if they do then yeah I'll just sign up as a different customer. Annoying but best option to game the system.

Also I can't remember if I posted it here, but when my sister got hers installed, as she's in a flat (share of freehold) the installers weren't too used to doing that type of install and fudged it up by cutting her live VM cable, and then leaving it for 1 week.

Had to go to the Ombudsman to get compensation as Community Fibre isn't part of the Ofcom compensation scheme (it's voluntary, but what do you expect with Ofcom having no teeth) and they tried to downplay the issue. Apart from that hiccup of the install they've been the same in terms of reliability (as my sister tells me when her internet isn't working), with about 2 outages (One past 1am, and the other around 9pm in the evening, not for too long at around 20 mins offline time).

Hopefully all others in this thread have experienced similar QoS. The only issue now is uploading to others is limited by their slow download speeds! :D

Do you hardwire xbox to network?

Wondered if MS/XBOX cap the the speed on xbox or if you can max you ISP speed. I connect over wifi and always got an average of 150-180mbps on my Virgin 350 line, but moved up to 500 package and get a around 250-300mbps now over wifi, not bad, downloaded Starfield in no time.

If I had the connections available, I would test the speed via cable.

your wifi is the weakest link.. i dont use xbox, but if its got gigabit LAN connection then you should get your full broadband speed. i get about 250mbs over wifi, but on PC fixed connection i get just over 900mbs. Also cheap LAN cables can degrade perforamance when going over 100mbs, espcially if bought rfom rain forest

Thats good to know, shame I don't have the connections near by to connect this way, but wifi has always been fine for me and the speeds enough for my needs over wifi.

I don't have an xBox or PS5 unfortunately. My TV is an interesting one though. It is much faster vía WiFi due to the ethernet on the tv only supporting 100mb

Just an update. Install went smoothly. Was 3 young lads. All done in under an hour as I recall.

I get around 930-935mb. Nice 2ms pings to BBC website. Virgin was like 4-5 times worse than that.

That was a long wait from the time they popped the leaflet in the door back in Feb/Mar but it is done now and well worth the wait :D
