COMPANY OF HEROES 2

Think ill bite on this one then.

Part of me wants to wait in case the discount increases on the original, but 8.99 is quite cheap anyway, cant see it shifting for less than that on Steam.

I prefer the original as well. For £10 though, it's worth getting. I'm glad I didn't get it at full price, as although it is good, it does feel like CoH 1.5. Maybe CoH was so good, only subtle improvements were possible, without a complete change of direction; for eg, what they did with DoW2. I'd take subtle improvements over DoW2 approach every time. Had CoH2 turned out like DoW2, I wouldn't have bothered with it.

What's the verdict on this vs the original company of hero's? Played that to death!

as others have said the fact that you need to cough up cash for additional commanders, the blizzard system is pants, etc...

but most importantly CoH1 supports mods. CoH2 doesn't. there are tons of CoH mods which make CoH even better than relic's original design: Blitzkrieg, Eastern Front, Modern Combat, Joint Operations, Europe Theatre of War etc...

I still play Blitzkrieg mod which is awesome.

Nope, its been changed. You can get commanders from just playing the game as random drops now.

Mod support is coming in a future patch.

Right i miss this game so much, i played like 7.2 million hours on the original and I have actually started to harm myself because ive not got this version.

So.... please can I ask the following:

1 - What makes the original better? I mean surely the gameplay is the same?

Better graphics, little things like being able to vault over walls, more variety in the game due to many commander choices, instead of just 3. Also has difference resource / capping system. Imo a better Veterancy system as well. I used to think Coh1 was better, but after playing Coh2 for awhile, coh1 doesn't seem as good as it used to be.

2 - Will i get online games easy, the original was easy to get games... always circa 5-10k players on

Games are pretty easy to get in automatch, especially since WFA was released. They have also added custom lobby's to the game so its easy enough.

3 - Can you do online 4 player v 4 AI coop?

Yes you can

4 - What DLCs to get? All of them?

So basically I can get the COH2 key for £8.99

Then the Southern Fronts Mission Pack for £1.49
Victory at Stalingard mission pack for 3.49
Case blue mission pack 3.49

Not sure what they do, but i might as well add them

Depends on what you want to do. The Theatre of War stuff are mostly single player missions / scenarios, some of them are CO-OP but can be played with the AI. I enjoyed playing them but it depends if you like Singleplayer or not. You can buy commanders for use in Multiplayer if you want, some of them are good some of them not so good. You can actually unlock them now from playing the game, you have a chance to get random drops at the end of each match.

Then there is this new western front thing for 13.99

That is the standalone expansion that was just released. They have added USA as well as a 2nd German faction.

Talk to me, sell it me

If your expecting a clone of COH1 then you may be disappointed. The game is pretty similar but there are differences but I think it is better. I've racked up almost 600 hours of the game now, as well as playing the Alpha, Beta and then WFA Alpha. The game has had quite a few changes since it was released and its much better now than it was.

they have been saying this since launch a year ago when many complained about the lack of mod support. believe what you want  even if they actually do Mod support eventually, I am afraid that making good mods take a long time to make, and with little interest in the game it may be too little too late.

Xalibur from BK has said that there wouldn't be a CoH2 Blitzkrieg mod, not sure what the EF guys are planning. considering how long it took modern combat to make their mod (several years) I doubt they will do it again. Maybe others will take up the challenge if this ever happens. I for one would be happy to see a BK mod for CoH2 but until that day comes I will keep playing CoH1 BK mod :)

My friends and I have been playing CoH1 since it originally launched like many fans, we all tried COh2 and thought it was pants, as well as many others. This is echoed by
- the reviews: 93 metacritic for CoH1 vs 80 for Coh2
- sales figures: over 4million for CoH1 vs 680k copies for CoH2

Russians were crying due to the way the Campaign is, painting them in a bad way. The game score and sales were affected by that quite a lot.

Also 4 million sales for an 8 year old game vs 680k for a 1 year old game. Coh2 as had atleast double the amount of average players since it has released VS Coh1. Coh2 is more popular right now. The player base for Coh1 is dying and not to mention automatch being pretty broken. There isn't really a competitive scene left there either.

As I said, game has changed a lot since launch.

Well id be naughty not to buy it thanks to a great reply by Puppetmaster... thank you very much :)

And also its on sale at 7.49.... cant grumble at that, means 20 quid and change and ill have that and the Western Front add on.

Tempted to get this in the Steam sale, but is it worth getting the Digital Collector's Edition for £15, or should I just stick with the normal version for £7.49?

I would say probably not. The only actual useful things are the commanders, but they are not needed, just can be a useful extra. Relic implemented a "drop" system, where if you play multi player games (not sure if playing against AI Counts) there is a chance to get those things for free (all be it very small chance currently, relic are releasing more information on it tomorrow I believe).

Thanks. Standard version it is then.

Ever since CoH2 release I have had problems during gameplay. I tend to get random freezes during gameplay, lasting from a split second to 4-5 seconds, sometimes just a few times but often or not too many to really enjoy a game. This happen during any game I play whether solo, AI battles or online players (hence I don't play with online players anymore, its rather annoying to them). I been looking at tons of forums and threads and although this problem does seem to occur on very rare occasions with other people, there has been no definite cause or solution to this amtter so to this day, it still occurs during my CoH2 gameplay and its frustrating and ruining my gameplay experience. Done all the the usual, updated drivers, re-install, not saving the replay during game play, changing resolution, graphic settings etc. If anyone has had or is having similar problems or has heard of anyone having them or perhaps read a post (with a solution) on this matter, please share it here.

Signed, a frustrated CoH2 player.

Played 1 - 4 human v 4 AI Expert... smooth as butter, although the AI didnt seem that great tbh and the map I didnt really like, was sort of like a bone... 2 thick ends where the bases where and a small ridge of land connecting them, surrounded by water... so the battle was basically who could chuck the most in the middle mixer the quickest.

Once we held of the initial AI push and got better gear, it had no response... thats a team including me a 1st game noob and not really knowing what i was doing with the Russians.
