Competitive game based on Skill, not Time played?

CoD? Seriously?

Sheer popularity crowbars it in, remember ******* Fifa is played at top game tournaments...

You two obviously have no idea about competitive esports. Basically the most popular FPS in the esports scene is still cod4.

Not all the weapons are available and you can't have any attachments on your guns apart from silencers. It is a balanced game not just run and gun.

Just to make it clear there are a load of amateurs who play it online competitively.

You have no idea how to read the OP and no idea how to not come across as an arrogant *****. Good info though :)

Technically no which is why the multiple websites you can get competitive cod4 games allow you to search by low-med-high skill level.

You guys are clueless lol.

guildwars, partly
in a pure pvp sense it would take you time to unlock stuff, but theres only a couple of ranks of unlock which are reasonably quick to reach, or u can buy unlocks i think

Yeah I feel the learning curve is brutal, but its very balanced, the only reason I would loose is because of lack of skill or tactics which is a good thing IMO.

Im stil learning SC2, but its great because Im pitted against people my own (low) skill level, which is fine by me.

It also sounds like what you are looking for. :)

I told him of privately run leagues/tournaments for FPS games -- but you also forget that the reason CS 1.6 still isn't flat out dominating the competitive FPS scene is because big hardware vendors kicked up a fuss many years ago of them paying out a lot to big tournaments for the main attraction to be a game that a mobile phone could run.

Thanks for the replay's guys, I'm re-installing SC2 now and will give it another go :)

If you can dedicate time and effort you will get big rewards from it. My two big obstacles with RTS games are:

a) I dislike losing :D
b) Screw your FEARs and your Amnesias, I find online RTS games terrifying experiences. A couple of games online tuckers me out :p

Im the last person to care about losing, but I must admit I dont try 1v1 unless Ive had a good nights sleep (lol).

Otherwise Ill play 3v3 and let my team mates carry me or try new builds/units/races!

www.quakelive.com

has a skill matching system that matches you against players of similar skill based on your performance.

green servers are reccomended skill, yellow is mixed skill, red is beware of the pro's.

I'm enjoying world of battles atm, it's on steam under there free to play games.

It's a cash shop mmo, but so far it seems like skill out weighs gameplay time/money used.

Someone recommended world of battles to me yesterday. I watched the trailer for it but struggled to work out the jist of it. Is it a typical rts type game or what?

it's just a typical Strategy RTS yeah.

And the match making system seems to be pretty good, i have never had a match where i am just completely done over, it's always pretty close unless your with some numpty who just sit's there :p

it's free so you may as well give it a go ;)

Hey guys and girls

I'm after a competitive multi-player game with a ranking system that rewards players for winning and puts you against players of similar skill, rather than a game that rewards players for just playing (game time)

For example Call of Duty puts you against any level player and you can rank up even if you're terrible

So is there any game (don't mind if its FPS, Strategy ETC....) that has a competitive multi-player with a ranking system based on player skill?

Thanks :)

quake 3 and it F2P online so you don't even need to buy the game

its one of the only games I know that really is about skill and knowledge of maps. Too many FPS today have the time = power model BF3 / MW series. You can simply grind out hour and hour and hours still be **** but because you played so long you still get to unlock gear that can make you superior.

League of Legends is a good one. Chuck £20 at it (the game's free anyway) to get an XP and IP boost so you can start collecting runes and get your levels faster (you don't need to do that, you might even benefit from no xp boost if you're new so you have longer to get used to the game). Once you're 30 and have a set of runes that suits what you play, you'll be on even footing with anyone in the game. While you're levelling you'll be learning the game anyway and there's a lot to learn. The game's more about what items you buy and how you actually play than how long you've been playing, there's just a month or two, absolute max, to begin with where some people will have a small advantage.

Bloodline Champions - great free to play game imo which looks a lot like LoL and stuff like that but has a playstyle all of it's own with having to aim all attacks/spells/heals etc.
