Competitors, clarification

To put simply you may aswell ban any mention of any retail business within the whole of the forums GD included.. This will sort out everything.. At least everyone will know where they stand on the matter..

Total ban on retailers.. that way we might stop all the threads about watches.. they do my head in.. then again it probably wont stop them talking about time pieces

They can easliy disguise their post to link to a console product or PC product on the supermarket website..

Doing so will earn them a suspension as that would be a blatant rulebreak. When it comes to other companies where games and hardware aren't their main business then it'll likely be treated like posting reviews, if it doesn't feature any massive or otherwise obvious links to actual games/hardware then it should be ok.

Rubbish. If I want to talk about Subway sandwiches I will do. It has zero bearing on OcUK as a business so it has zero impact and is fine to talk about.

We don't ban an entire area of discussion because a tiny part of it does one member's head in. ;)

So what about high street shops that primarily sell DVDs and CDs? I'm assuming they aren't allowed since they normally sell a significant amount of games.

Currently the games only sites technically are ok to mention, as OcUK only sells hardware and bundles currently.

The odds of a store worth mentioning just selling games and no hardware at all however are slim.

If OcUK stock games at some point aswell then they would be classed as a competitor, it is safest not to mention any games stores at all. Most are likely to stock bundles or controllers at the least.

All the ones I'm thinking of sell hardware too. So they aren't allowed I suppose.

Neil, its a case of damned if we do and damned if we don't. We'd just have had lots of new threads posted about it instead.

Most of the people banned have got themselves banned on purpose to make some kind of statement.

On a post in another thread I mention a competitor then releised what I'd done after posting it and after a few mins I edited out. If Genuine made will I get suppened. Or is it if someone is being a complete azz and doing it all the time.

(I don't make an habbit of naming competitor it was about a preordered Wii)

I don't understand your question. Do you mean if its a mistake will there be repercussions? If you could run all that by me again in English it'd help :)

If so, yes. There will.

I re-read his question several times, I believe he means:

If he posted a shop name (lets pretend a shop called awesome video game store) and then he editted it, and said sorry I forgot about the competitors rule would he get in trouble, or is it only if he said "guys, get it from awesome video games store! it rocks quick delivery and stuff"

If I'm replying to someone and I write a competitors name by mistake would I just be warned about it or is it one mistake and suppened. A bit like when someone forgets to star out a naughty word. I think it's going to happan now and then as OcUK asn't stocked game consoles long.

I just askd as I did write a competitors name by mistake and edited out after I realised my mistake in another thread but if a admin had got there before me I'd had been realy down if I got a weeks holiday from the forum.

Sorry I'm not the sharpest tool in the box.

Thats about it yes.

If it is clear you are posting competitors and editing once someone has read them then expect a few weeks on holiday. :)

Just edits given out normally, certainly some are honest mistakes now with the larger retaillers and catalogues.

Keep doing it though and you will get a suspension, I send out emails if I have to remove several or make a post in the persons thread to alert them to the situation and hopefully stop them from doing it again.

If you get an email and then post competitors again though, then you get hit hard.
