It's not a debate, it's the rules.

Why make a thread then for people to discuss it? , its like that 911 event which i got banned for  why have people discuss it and only allow one sided views? . Post a sticky or updated rules and keep the thread closed

Personally I think it would be a good idea to have a thread somewhere on the forum which lists sites that are ok to be mentioned.

Have a sticky or something asking in there whether this site can be mentioned, (ie if its one that sells some pc stuff but mainly sells other items). If its allowed it could be put in the first post.

(just a possible suggestion as there are numerous sites out there that could be seen either way).

Very good idea :)

Might want to stick one of these in the console section too mate.

To be fair around this time of year a lot of folk dont realise. and the one troublesome one people usually are not aware of. Comes up every 6 months or so.

Which should clearly be allowed. I understand other companies, but lets be honest one of them is just plain daft.

Mods/Admins how much money do you lose out on with competitors being posted in the pc game section? ( by accident )

How on earth can they pull that information up? I mean think about it, where would it exist? No where!

I know... I'll do like they'd have to do and make a figure up.

ummm..

uhhh....

I can see where you're going with this type of question, and while I can agree with the logic, I don't think Ocuk will see that as the point. It's a site hosted by them, for free, and as such they ask us to conform to a few simple rules.

I fully appreciate it can be a litttle binding, and sometimes petty, but personally I think the Ocuk forum is excellent, and if it means I have to watch what I write (in relation to competitors), then so be it.

I'd guess the revenue generated from members of this forum far outweighs the cost of bandwidth and running the server. However, the rules are the rules.

I have no problems at all with the rules and appreciate the fact that these forums are free. I just don't quite like the wording as it makes it seem like these forums are not an investment for OcUK... which they quite blatently are (reccomendations, forum members spending thousands each month, word of mouth, etc etc etc).

Interesting point, however I don't really think this is meant to be something insidious, it is an investment for Ocuk, but one that I for one have fully taken advantage of.

Over the weeks, since joining this forum, I have asked many questions, and have always received good, practical replies to help. For me, this ability to tap into an amazingly friendly knowledge base, far outweighs my concern over Ocuk's use of the forum as a tool of investment.

I always appreciate the advice I get on this forum, and am willing to abide by the rules... although I did have a few mishaps upon first entering the forum!!!!

Yeap couldn't agree more, but i do remember the huge thread this time last year in console with Davey Pitch when we all just went round in circles, so nowadays i have come to accept that the rules are rules and wont be changed, which is a shame though, especially as some folk will get holidays about it.

And stupidly - they are allowed.

Pointed it out many times - get told it's allowed to mention them every time.

Heh the irony eh. I don't see the point in competitor mention banning, people buy from OCUK because of the service and ocuk are always saying they are competitive when it comes to price (usually the case) and delivery is fast amd trouble free. I can't see a OCUK shopper going elsewhere just because it was mentioned on the forums tbh.

Moreso rules like that scare new people away from the forums and they seek out competitors instead (double irony oh!).

bah didn't see the 2 mice on there and 3 cables.

Still, why would those 5 or so products be substantial enough for us not to be allowed to mention game.net

Anyway I'm not too fussed

Agree with the 1st point :)

I have never bought from Overclockers because I have always found the same product cheaper elsewhere, which is important as I am a broke Student atm.

OcUK should have a student section :D

What's perhaps even more interesting is the user who started this thread has only posted 1 reply back to all these points raised.

I'm not suggesting they should have all the answers, but if you are going to start such an issue as this one, then perhaps a bit of feedback in respect of those issues counter-argued would be welcomed.

Strangely enough, I know this is quite shocking, but the Dons aren't 24x7, they're just ordinary volunteers doing work in their spare time. he posted this thread at half midnight, and no doubt will start answering questions raised when he's next able to.

Jeez.. give the guy some chance to be human and not stuck in front of a computer 24x7.
