After just removing 10+ competitors from the first page, and countless others over the past few days enough is enough. Post competitors and you will no longer get a edit, you will get a suspension.

In the rules on these forums this part is made very clear:-

OcUK are happy to provide the resources of these forums to responsible individuals without charge. They cost a substantial amount of money to maintain and use considerable amounts of bandwith which is paid for exclusively by OcUK. As you know OcUK are in the computer hardware business and therefore the promotion of OcUK's competitors is forbidden. Examples of promotion are :-
Posting links to competitors websites
Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
Disguising attempts to do any of the above

Mentioning competitors in gaming is no different to hardware, and it is happening more and more each day especially in PC Games.

This stops now, no excuses.

If you break the rules you could end up on a nice little holiday from the forums.

I love it when they get angry... oooo... but no, seriously kids.. no competitors! especially you fubs.. you.. ginger competitor mentioner! [NB: not personal attack] :p

Can you give some examples of what stores we can mention please, i thought video game stores were ok, just not ones that sell considerable ammounts of hardware too.

But then, even the smallest ones sell things like joysticks, so are we not allowed to mention them at all?

Might want to stick one of these in the console section too mate.

To be fair around this time of year a lot of folk dont realise. and the one troublesome one people usually are not aware of. Comes up every 6 months or so.

Strange i don't remember seeing any pc game sites being competitors , next thing it will be in motoring too

Personally I think it would be a good idea to have a thread somewhere on the forum which lists sites that are ok to be mentioned.

Have a sticky or something asking in there whether this site can be mentioned, (ie if its one that sells some pc stuff but mainly sells other items). If its allowed it could be put in the first post.

(just a possible suggestion as there are numerous sites out there that could be seen either way).

Just an idea... couldn't the forum be configured so that even if people do post competitors they're edited out into asterisks automatically like "f tw", "u r", and "te h" (without spaces)? Sure you wouldn't get the satisfaction of suss'ing/banning but at least no one would be linked. I would've thought that nearly all mentioning of competitors can be easily ruled out using this method.

that wouldn't work because many competitors have names that are normal words that will commonly be used. It would be ridiculous to not be able to tell everyone how your holiday to south america.

I'm quite new to this forum... and have made a few errors when it comes to naming (or even hinting of a competitor)!

In my very lean defence, I never quoted a competitor in order to disrespect Ocuk, or in an attempt to get loads of people to shop elsewhere by subliminal advertising, it was mearly used to explain the situation I was discussing.

Anyho, I've made my mistakes, and am now more careful when it comes to talking about the 'diabolical' competition!

It's the rules!

Good idea, but as ou say, they wouldn't be able to use the ban button ;) So don't expect to see that used any time soon!

Ironically enough there's one site I didn't even realise sold hardware until I found out you couldn't mention it here. Now I buy all my hardware from there :p (actually that's a joke, I've never bought any hardware from there ;) )

It's very simple guys, if the place you're linking sells anything that OcUK does, then it's in competition with OcUK and out of respect for the service they provide us free of charge (which clearly you all enjoy as much as I do, and wouldn't want to do without) the competitor doesn't need to be linked/mentioned/hinted at in some not very clever way.

It's not a debate, it's the rules.

What if you mention the name of a BRAND that also happens to be the name of an online SHOP?

e.g. there is a cpu cooler brand named CHILLOUT and OcUk sells this item. However, the brand CHILLOUT is also sold through their website (e.g. www.chillout.com).

Can you mention the word CHILLOUT or not?

If the mods/admin don't like it just have a list of censored storenames. So every time someone types **** or whatever that occurs.

oh wait a certain PC component is similar to competitor :D
